The Visit to this Historical and Heritage Place at
Periyeripatti in Salem District with an earliest, 4th Century CE Thamizhi
inscription was a part of Kolli Hills Heritage walk - வல்வில் ஒரி தேச மரபு நடை... organised by எண்திசை வரலாற்று மரபுநடை
குழு, on 20th
and 21st May 2023. But this is popularly known as Amman Kovil Patty
inscription.
சேலம் மாவட்டம், ஓமலூர் வட்டத்துக்குட்பட்ட அம்மன்கோயில்பட்டியில், பாறையின் மீது வெட்டப்பட்ட
தமிழி கல்வெட்டு. சேலம் மாவட்டத்தில் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்ட மிகப்
பழமையான கல்வெட்டு இது. அவ்விடம் தமிழ்நாடு தொல்லியல் துறையால் பெரியேரிப்பட்டி என
பதியப்பட்டு இருந்தாலும், அம்மன்கோயில்பட்டி கல்வெட்டு என பெரும்பான்மையான
மக்களால் அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. இக்கல்வெட்டு இரண்டு வரிகளைக் கொண்டது. இக்கல்வெட்டின் காலம் நான்காம் நூற்றாண்டு என்று கணிக்கப்படுகிறது.
As
per Tamil Nadu Archaeological Department’s display, this place is called as
Periyeripatti on the banks of river Upparu with a pond. The two line Thamizhi inscription found on the boulder of
Periyeripatti with a spring was dated to 4th Century CE.
The
inscription records that Kokoor Chieftain Varamban’s son Viyakkan Koban
Kanadevan has cut the pond. Varamban seems to be associated with the sangam
period, may be related to Cheras. The inscription reads as ..

கல்வெட்டின் பொருள்
பரம்பன் கோகூர் கிழார் என்பவரின் மகன் வியக்கன் கோபன் கணதேவன் என்பவன்
வெட்டிய சுனை என்பது கல்வெட்டின் பொருள் ஆகும். பரம்பன் என்ற முதல் சொல் வரம்பன் என பாடபேதத்துடன் படித்தவர்களும் உண்டு.

The Pond - sunai
A Deepa sthambam is installed at the top of the rock. In front of it is a Shrine for Nagars. In front of Nagars found scratch marks. These scratch marks my be formed during sharpening of stone tools by the Stone age people.
