Sri Mahalingeswarar Temple / Mahalingeshwarar Alayam / ஸ்ரீ மகாலிங்கேசுவரர் ஆலயம், Sirukalathur, Tiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu.

This Mahalingeshwarar Temple at Sirukalathur is in the middle of the tank, surrounded by water. The temple is small, little away from human habitation. The speciality of this temple is built with Gajaprishta style.

Some of the salient features of this temple are…
The temple is facing east with balipeedam and Rishabam. Moolavar in the sanctum is little tall on round avudayar. In Koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahma and Durgai.

In Praharam Vallaba Ganapathy, Nagars, Bairavar and Navagrahas. Ambal Prahath Sundara Kujambal is in a separate sannidhi facing South. Ambal is in standing posture with abhaya varadha hastam.



ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum and an ardha mandapam. The total temple was constructed completely with bricks.  Constructed in Gajaprishta style from adhisthamam to Sigaram. No Architectural style was followed. An Ekatala is on the sanctum sanctorum with 3 kalasas. Shiva, Dakshinamurthy, Brahma and Durgai are in the greeva koshtam. 







HISTORY & INSCRIPTIONS
The present structure was built and Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted  in August 2014.  The details of the original temple was not known. Latter a metacolour shed was provided in front of the sanctum sanctorum.

Since orukala Pooja is conducted the opening and closing time are unpredictable.

The temple is about 500 meters away from the Village Sirukalathur,  4.5 KM from Veppampattu Railway station, 13 KM from Tiruvallur Railway Station, 14 KM from Avadi, 33 KM from Koyambedu and  42 KM from Chennai Central.
