Sri Parasuramar Temple, Mullipakkam ( Kattakhazhani ), Chengalpattu District Tamil Nadu.

24th November 2019.
The visit to this Sri Parasuramar  Temple was a part of  Pallava  and Chozha period temples Visit scheduled on 24th November 2019. After Kattur Sri Uthara Vaithiyalingeshwarar Darshan, we came to Manampathy little late and found the temple was closed after Uchi Kala pooja. It was told that the temple will be opened only after 16.30 hrs.  Since Mullipakkam was about 6 KM from Manampathy, decided to visit this temple.

Some of the salient features of this temple are…
The Concrete road leading the temple is on a straight line through the fields and the temple is also in the midst of the field. The temple is facing west with an entrance arch on the south side. Balipeedam and Nandhi are in front of the temple. In koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Mahavishnu, Brahma and Durgai.

The Temple consists of Sanctum sanctorum, antarala and artha mandapam. Ambal is in the artha mandapam facing south. In the outer prakaram Suryan, Chandikeswarar and Bhairavar.

HISTORY.
The temple may be old but renovated completely. There is no inscription on the adhisthana or on the walls. Looking at the arthamandapa pillars the temple may belongs to 200 to 300 years old.

TEMPLE TIMINGS
Since oru kala pooja is conducted opening and closing times are unpredictable.

HOW TO REACH:
The temple is about 500 meters from the Village.
Mullipakkam is about 6 KM from Manampathy, 17.6 KM from Thiruporur, 11 KM from Tirukalukundram and 15 KM from Chengalpattu.
Nearest Railway station is Chengalpattu.

Sri Uthira Vaidhiyalingeswarar Temple / Uthira Vaithiyalingeshwarar Temple / Uthira Vaitheeswaran Koil, Kattur, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu.

24th November 2019.
The visit to this Sri Uthira Vaithiyalingeshwarar Temple was a part of  Pallava  and Choha period temples Visit scheduled on 24th November 2019. After Vembedu  Sri Agastheeswarar, on the way to Thiruporur happened to see this temple at the junction of three roads  with a tall Rajagopuram. Thinking that this must be an old temple  and might have been reconstructed in the recent years, Went inside the temple and had the darshan of Lord.

Some of the salient features of this temple are…..
The temple is facing east with a 5 tier Rajagopuram. Balipeedam, dwajasthambam and Nandhi are after the Rajagopuram. There is another 3 tier Rajagopuram on the south side opposite to Ambal sannadhi. Moolavar is of Swayambhu. Ambal is in the Arthamandapa facing south.  In artha mandapam Vinayagar, Sekkizhar and Nalvar.  In the outer prakaram Vinayagar, Murugan, Gajalakshmi, Chandikeswarar, Chevvai, Navagrahas, Nagars under Neem and Palm Tree ( Sthala Vruksha ) and Bhairavar.  The temple Pond Agathiyar Theertham is on the back side.

HISTORY:
Since there is no inscriptions and the temple was renovated completely, looking at the pillars  of the arthamandapa, the temple may belongs to Vijayanagara or pre Vijayanagara period. The original temple may belongs to Chozha's period.

The mukha mandapam called vasantha mandapam was built during 2003 and recent maha kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 2nd February 2004.

LEGENDS
This is a Chevvai parikara sthalam and is equivalent to Sri Vaitheeswaran temple near Kumbakonam. Also this is a Angaraka dosha nivarthi sthalam. It is believed that Lord Shiva will remove all the obstacles in the marriage. 
 
Lord Shiva gave darshan to Agasthiyar and also he gave the Kalyana kola darshan.

As per the legend, The sage Agathiyar had done dhabas on Lord Shiva in this place, which was once surrounded by the forest with trees. Lord Shiva wants to make the Villagers to aware of sage Agathiyar and spread the communicable decease. The Villagers do not know what to do and prayed to Agasthiyar to save them. In turn Agasthiyar also prayed. Lord Shiva told him to create a pond and worship him with the water.  Agasthiyar had done as per Shiva’s advice and gave the abhishek theertha  to all the people of the Kattur Village. The people got cured from all the deceases. It was told that even now no communicable decease will affect the Kattur Village. Since Lord Shiva cured the deceases, he is being called as “Vaithya- மருத்துவர்  and this temple is on the northern part of Tamil Nadu,  “Uthira ( means North in Sanskrit) ” is prefixed to this temple’s name.

Apart from regular poojas Vaikasi visakam, Navarathri, Karthigai deepam, Arudra Darshan, Maha Sankranti and Panguni uthiram with Lord Shiva’s thirukalyanam.

Sri Agastheeswarar Temple, Vembedu, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu.

 24th November 2019.
The visit to this Sri Agastheeswarar temple at Vembedu near Thiruporur was a part of  Pallava  and Chozha period temples Visit scheduled on 24th November 2019. After Sri Varadharaja  Perumal temple of Kayar, on the way to Thiruporur happened to see this temple on the right side of the Road and an Anjaneyar statue is before the Shiva Temple.  Looking at the structure we that the temple may belongs to Vijayanagara period.

This temple is believed to be one of the Thevara vaippu sthalam sung by  Thirunavukkarasu Swamigal. It is believed that, this is one of the 108 Shiva Lingas installed by  Sage Agasthiyar in Thondai Nadu and a Thevara Vaippu sthalam. Thirunavukkarau Swamigal has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of Agatheechuram along with Nandhikechuram, Mahalaechuram, Nagechuram, Kodeechuram, Kondeechuram, Kukkudechuram, Akkeechuram, Adakechuram, Ayaneechuram Aththeechuram, Siddheechuram and Ramechuram.

Some of the salient features of this temple are…
The temple facing east without any Rajagopuram or Dwajasthambam. Balipeedam and Nandhi are in the mukha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum consists of Sanctum antarala, artha mandapam and a mukha mandapam. Mukha mandapam was supported by 20 pillars of Vijayanagara period. Ambal Sri Vedavalli is in mukha mandapam facing south. Mukha Mandapa ceiling has the fish carving, solar and Lunar eclipse reliefs.

In koshtam, Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Mahavishnu, Brahma and Durgai.  In Prakaram Vinayagar, Balamurugan and Padithurai Vinayagar. The temple tank is on the west side of the temple.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of Sanctum sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam and mukha mandapam. The adhisthana is of pada bandha adhisthana with threepatta kumuda. The sanctum sanctorum is of two talas.
   


HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
Looking at the style of pillars the temple may belongs to 17th to 18th Century, ie Post Vijayanagaras or Nayaka period. There is no inscriptions found in this temple.

Sri Varadharaja Perumal Temple, Kayar, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu

24th November 2019.
The visit to this Sri Varadharaja Perumal temple was a part of  Pallava  and Chozha period temples Visit scheduled on 24th November 2019. After Kamala Narayana Perumal temple’s visit the locals guided to this Vishnu temple saying this is also one of the old temple in this Village Kayar.  This place Kayar was  called as Kamala Narayana Chathurvedi Mangalam, gifted to the Brahmins.

Some of the salient features of the temple are…
The temple is facing east with a newly built arch. A Deepasthambham is in front of the arch and a new road was laid keeping the deepasthambham in the middle of the road. On the side of entrance arch two Garudan stucco images are installed on the compound wall.

Moolavar Varadharaja Perumal is in standing posture with Sridevi and Bhudevi. Balipeedam and Garudan are in front of Mukha mandapam. At the entrance Mandapa pillars Lakshmi and Ramanujar. The Vaishnava deities and sculptures are on the mandapa pillars. In the prakaram Alwars sannadhi facing south.

The sanctum sanctorum consists of Sanctum, artha mandapam and a open mukha mandapam. An ekathala Vimana is on the sanctum. The adhisthana is a simple pathabhandha adhisthana.

Learnt that this place was called as Kumizhi nattu Kamala Narayana Chaturvedi Mangalam. Looking at the structure the temple the temple may belongs to 17th to 18th century Nayak period. The temple was reconstructed in the recent years. There is no inscriptions found in the temple.

Sri Kamala Narayana Perumal Temple, Kayar, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu.

24th November 2019.
The visit to this Sri Kamala Narayana Perumal temple was a part of  Pallava  and Chozha period temples Visit scheduled on 24th November 2019. Mr Kesavan, a student and a History enthusiast gave a list of temples to be visited with important details in advance. Since this temple name was mentioned as the Village name, inquired the locals about this temple. They guided to this temple. When we expected and old temple in a sprawling space, the temple is new and it is adjacent to a house.

Some of the salient features of this temple are…
The temple is facing east with a balipeedam and Garudan are in front. The temple consists of sanctum, artha mandapam and a small mukha mandapam. Moolavar Kamala Narayana Perumal is in standing posture with Sridevi and Bhudevi. The new temple is of pathabhanda adhisthana. In koshtam Vinayagar, Lakshmi Narasimhar, Mahavishnu, Lakshmi Hayagreevar and Durgai.

HISTORY
This Village was gifted to Brahmins and called as Kamala Narayana Chathurvedi Mangalam.  And the presiding deity is also called as Kamala Narayana Perumal. As per the inscriptions this place was under Jayangonda Chozhamandalathu,  Kumizhi Nattu Kayar.
  
The original temple is believed to be built during 8th Century Pallava period and latter rebuilt during Chozha period. The temple was completely renovated and there is no trace of antiquity. To our surprise we found two stones with Chozha period inscriptions are  placed on the top of the side wall. The width of the inscription stone was also cut to match the width of the wall. The fate of the old inscription and pillars are not known.

This is a incomplete Gandraditya or Sundara Chozha's 4th reign year inscription records the endowment of burning a perpetual lamp in the temple of Urudaip Perumal TirumeRRalideva, by Kandan Pudi, the headman of a Village ( Name lost ) in Sonadu. ( SII-Volume 13 - 95, ARE 444 of 1922 ).

Gandraditya or Sundara Chozha’ s 4th reign year Inscription records the endowment of sribali offerings in the temple of Urudaip Perumal TirumeRRalideva at the Village. It also records another land for the expenses of  Thiruchchennadai ( procession for which a land was gifted as tax free, by Arinjoman,  the headman of Anaichchur in Thirunaraiyur Nadu, a subdivision of Sonadu. ( SII-Volume 13 - 96 , ARE 444 of 1922 ).

Menhirs Worshiped as Muneeswaran & Veeraiyan & Veerayi, Memorial Stones, Kayar, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu.

24th November 2019.
The visit to this Muneeswaran Temple was not planned earlier and not  a part of Pallava and Chozha period temples, scheduled on 24th November 2019. After visiting Sri Adaleswarar Temple’s Visit, on the way to Sri Kamala Narayana Perumal Temple, happened to these menhir worshiped as Muneeswaran. This menhir belongs to 3000 to 4000 years old stone age. Some of the menhirs with inscriptions belongs to recent periods along with Muneeswaran. Probably installed in memory of their ancestors with their names inscribed.
 

Annual pooja is conducted with offering of pongal and sacrificing of Goat / Cock. Suruttu a variety of tobacco product and liquor are offered to this Muneeswaran.

VEERAIYAN & VEERAYI MEMORIAL STONES
Just before the Village Kayar happened to see this Memorial stones near a Vinayagar Temple, on the road side. The images are called as Veeraiyan and Veerayi. It was told that this memorial stone was in the field and the same was shifted to this present place. Looking at the tuft these memorial stones may belongs to Nayak period ie 17th to 18th Century.
