Shani Shingnapur, Shinganapur, Maharashtra, India. - Jyotirlinga Temples Yatra.

21st February, 2016
DAY -3, 04-02-2016.
It was around 22.00 hrs when we reached Shani temple late Shinganapur on the way to Shirdi from Ellora. The temple was almost closed, hope we are the last persons to enter.

The moolavar is a black Swayambhu stone, kept open to the sky. Hanuman and trident are installed near. On the opposite Sannadhi for Hanuman and Lord Shiva. In the outer praharam, sannadhi for the Shepherd, who founded this Shani Temple, Mahalakshmi.  Devotees are not allowed to pour the oil on the moolavar instead, asked to pour it into a container from where the oil is pumped into the moolavar.

The hearsay of the history of the Shani Bhagavan of this temple goes like this...

A shepherd touched a stone on the bank of the river with a steel spike. Immediately blood was oozing out of the stone. The villagers also witnessed the same. On that day night, Sri Shani Bhagavan came into Shepherd’s dream and told that the stone was him (Shani Bhagavan) only and every Saturday thaila kappu to be carried out and to be kept and open to the sky.  Also, the people of that village believed that if any person stole in that village he would go blind. Hence there are no doors to any house in that village. Also to justify there was no theft reported till 2010 after that two to three cases were reported.
