HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
As per the book on Kanchipuram Mavatta Varalaru, written by A Paa. Thirugnanasambandhan, this place was called Gangai Nallur. The inscription recorded in ARE 1940-41 No 110. As per the inscription this place was called Gangainallur.
Vijayanagara King Achutharaya's period ( 04.11.1530 ) inscription records that this place Gangai nallur ( Nanga nallur ) and Pazhavan Thangal villages are gifted to Koyambedu Cheruveethinayinar alias Sri Subramaniyar Temple as thevadhanam, by the Mahapirathani ( Chief Minister ) Chellappa ( Chevvappa..?) Thandanayakar for the wellbeing of the King, while he was at Kanchipuram.
Another damaged inscription ( near the previous one ) also records the gift to Cheruveethinayinar ( Sri Subramaniyar Temple ). The Inscription mentions the year as Saga Year 1452, Vikruthi Dakshinayanam, Viruchikam pournami, Friday Kiruthigai.
.
It was told that the Moolavar was unearthed from the temple pond through Sri Kanchi Maha Periyava.
