Sri Mallinath Temple, Mel Sithamur near Gingee, the remains of Jainism, Villupuram District, Tamil Nadu.

This Sri Malainathar Jinalaya was not on the list of the Ahimsa walk but was later included along with the Sri Parshvanath Temple of Mel Sithamur. After the darshan of Sri Mallinathar of Perumbugai, we headed to these two Jinalayas.

SRI MALLINATHAR TEMPLE.

பெரும்புகை ஸ்ரீ மல்லிநாதர் தரிசனத்திற்க்கு பிறகு எங்களுடைய இலக்கு மேல் சித்தாமூர். மேல் சித்தாமூரில் இரண்டு ஜீனாலயங்கள் அவற்றில் ஒன்று ஸ்ரீ மலைநாதர் ஜீனாலயம். ஜீனாலயம் வடக்கு நோக்கி இருந்தாலும், ராஜகோபுரத்துடன் வாயில் கிழக்கு பகுதியில் இருந்து. சங்கநிதி பதும நிதி ராஜகோபுரத்தில் இருபுறமும் இருக்கின்றனர். கருவரையில் 9ம் நூற்றாண்டைச் சார்ந்த ஒரே பாறையில் புடை சிற்பமாக செதுக்கப்பட்ட பாகுபலி, பார்சுவநாதர், ஆதிநாதர், நேமிநாதர் மற்றும் அம்பிகா யக்ஷி. இங்கு உள்ள பாகுபலி சிற்பம் தான் காலத்தால் ஸ்ரவனபெலகோலா கோமதீஸ்வரர் சிலைக்கு முற்பட்டது என்று கூறினர்.

இந்த ஜீனாலயத்திற்க்கு கிபி 871ல் நந்தா விளக்கு எரிப்பதற்கு சோழ நாட்டு தென் காவா குல மங்கலம் என்ற ஊரைச் சார்ந்த மதியன் அரிந்திகைன், என்பவன் கொடை அளித்துள்ளான். மேலும் குலொத்துங்க சோழன் மனைவி காடவர் கோன் பாவை ஜீனாலயத்தின் விரிவாக்கத்திற்க்கு இரு கொலுசும் கொடுத்து உள்ளார்.

இந்த ஜீனாலயம் ஜைன காஞ்சி மடத்தின் தலைமை ஸ்ரீ லக்ஷ்மி சேன பட்டாரக பட்டாச்சாரியார் சுவாமியின் கட்டுப்பாட்டில் உள்ளது. இம்மடம் காஞ்சியில் இருந்து அரசியல் மற்றும் மதம் காரணங்களுக்காக மேல் சித்தாமூருக்கு மாற்றப்பட்டது இரு நூரு வருடங்களுக்கு முன்பு.

This jinalaya is on the back side of Sri Parshwanath jinalaya. This Jinalaya faces north with an entrance from the East. A 3-tier Rajagopuram is on the east side. Sanga Nidhi and Padmanidhi are on both sides of the entrance.

In the sanctum, a bas relief of Bahubali ( The Bahubali is older than the Shravanabelagola Gomateshwara Bahubali statue), Parsvanatha, Adhinatha, Neminatha, and Ambika yakshi are carved on a single boulder belonging to the 9^th century.

There are two inscriptions. The 871 CE inscription speaks about the donation of burning a perpetual lamp by one Sri Mathiyan Arinthigai belonging to Then Kava Kula Mangalam, Puthambur of Pudukkottai in Chozha Nadu. Another inscription speaks about the donation of anklets by the Kadavar Kon Paavai, wife of Kulothunga Chozhan for the improvement of the existing temple.

This temple is being managed by Jina Kanchi mutt headed by Sri Lakshmi sena Battaraka Bhattacharya Swamikal, which was originally at Jaina Kanchi and later shifted to Mel Sithamur due to various reasons like religious, antagonism, and animosity, as per tour guide issued by the Tamil Jains community.

Mel Sithamur is 14 KM from Gingee and 23.3 KM from Tindivanam.
