The list of Shiva temples in and around Kanchipuram with links to Google Photos, Location links on Google Maps, and Location QR Codes is already posted in this blog.  The visit to the above Temples on the banks of Sarva Theertham Kulam was a part of the 2020 Maha Shivaratri Temples Visit, on 21^st February 2020.

This temple Sri Lakshmana Eswarar is on the south banks of Sarva Theetam Kulam. Both Sri Lakshmanaeswarar and Seetha Eswarar temples are opposite to each other. This Shiva temple was established and worshiped by Lakshmana.

The 18th-century saint Sri Sivagnana Swamigal had written the sthala purana of this temple in Kanchipuram under Sarva Theertha padalam.

1619   இருட்கொடும் பிறவி மாற்றும் இலகுளீச் சரமீ றாகத்

      தருக்கறு காட்சி யோகா சாரியர் தளிகள் சொற்றாம்

      மருத்துத மலர்மேற் பூத்த வளம்புனல் குடைவோர் தங்கள்

      கருத்தவிர் சருவ தீர்த்தக் கரைபொலி தலங்கள் சொல்வாம் 1

1643   இராமேச்சரம் - பரமாநந்த மண்டபம்

      உருவமென் கமலம் பூத்த உயர்சிவ கங்கைத் தென்பால்

      திருவிரா மேச்ச ரத்துச் சிவபிரான் திருமுன் னாக

      இருவினைப் பிறவிக் கஞ்சி எய்தினோர்க் குறுபே ரின்பம்

      மருவுறும் பரமா நந்த மண்டபம் ஒன்று மாதோ

1644   மண்டபம் இனைய மூன்றும் வைகறை எழுந்து நேசங்

      கொண்டுளம் நினையப் பெற்றோர் உணர்வெலாங் கொள்ளை கொண்ட

      பண்டைவல் வினையின் வீறும் பற்றிய மலங்கள் மூன்றும்

      விண்டுபே ரின்ப வெள்ள வேலையில் திளைத்து வாழ்வார்

Some of the important details are...

The temple faces west with an entrance from the north. Balipeedam and Rishabam are in front of the temple. Moolavar is on a Padma peta. Rishaba mandapa is with a vesara vimana. 

ARCHITECTURE

The main temple vimana Sikara is of 8-sided Dravida Sikara with 8 Nasis. Stucco images of Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahma, and Lord Shiva are on the 1^st level of the griva koshta. In addition to this, the images of Devas, Rishis, and Kanniayars are also on the vimana.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS

Historians believe that the original temple was built during the 7^th to 8^th century during the Pallava period. Later reconstructed in recent years. 

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS

Apart from orukala pooja, special poojas are conducted on Maha Shivaratri, pradosham, Amavasya, etc.

Since oru kala pooja is conducted, the opening and closing times are unpredictable.  

HOW TO REACH:

This temple is on the bank of Sarva Theertham Kulam and Kanchipuram to Vellore Road.

About 2.4 km from Kanchipuram Bus Stand, 2.0 km from Kanchipuram Railway Station, 27 km from Arakkonam Railway Junction, and 75 km from Chennai Central Station.

The nearest Railway Station is Kanchipuram, and the Nearest Railway Junction is Arakkonam.
