The visit to this
Pandaveswar, Dharmeshwar and Paranjothi Amman temples, near Kanchipuram east
Railway station was a part of 2020 Maha Shivaratri Temples Visit, on 21st
February 2020. After Thirukalimedu Sri Sathyanatheswarar Temple’s Visit, our
next destination was to this temple.
The 18th Century Sri Sivagnana Swamigal had written the
sthala puranam of Pandavecharam in his Kanchi puranam. Though this temple may not
be exactly matches with the temple mentioned, the characters and story of
Mahabharata is common for all the temples. The original Text in Tamil goes

ஊரானாற் கன்பின் உரோமசர் முற்கலனார்

என்றினைய ரெல்லாம் இலிங்கந் தனித்தனியே

மன்றின் நடமாடும் வள்ளல் அருள்பெறுவார்

அன்னவற்றின் தென்பால் கயிலாயம் அவ்வரைப்பின்
நன்னர்க் கயிலாய நாதன் றனைநிறுவி
மன்னுந் திசைக்கிறைமை பெற்றான் மருவலார்க்
கின்னல்புரி முத்தலைவேல் ஈசானன் என்பவே

Some of the salient
features of this temple are....
The temple is facing
east with and Entrance Arch. Paranjothi Amman’s stucco image is on the top of
the arch. Separate sannadhis for Sri siddhi Vinayagar, Sri Paranjothi Amman, Throwpathi / Draupadi
Amman, Dharmaraja, Pandaveswar, Sikandeswar and Dharmeshwar. The Nagars are
under a peepal tree. Stucco mages of Krishna
with Bhama & Rukmini, Paranjothi Amman and Shiva with Parvati are on the
top of the mandapa. All the three sannadhis are constructed in a
row.
Draupadi Amman is
treated as the main temple of this complex with balipeedam and Dwajasthambam. Stucco
image of Draupadi is on top of the entrance.
Pandaveswar Shiva
linga is kept along with Sri Vinayagar. It was told that both Dharmeshwar and
Pandaveswar Shiva Lingas are found near the Railway track / Gate. It is
believed that both belongs to Pallava Period. There is a kanthu in-front of Shiva Temple.

The temple will be
kept open between 06.30 hrs to 11.30 hrs and 16.00 hrs to 20.00 hrs.

The temple is on the
Railway Station Road, ( Periya Kanchipuram
), East Railway Station
1.2 KM from
Kanchipuram Bus stand, 2.1 KM from Kanchipuram Railway Station, 31 KM from
Arakkonam Railway Junction and 80 KM from Chennai Central Station.

Station is Kanchipuram and Nearest Railway Junction is Arakkonam.
