Sellandiamman Temple, செல்லாண்டியம்மன் கோவில், Alukuli, Erode District, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to this Sellandiamman Temple at Alukuli in Tiruppur District was a part of “Ayyanar, Durgai Sculptures, Hero Stone and Memorial Stones in Shiva & Amman Temples of Tiruppur and Erode Districts Visit, on 27th and 28th February 2022”. This temple belongs to 18 Villages around this place.



Main Deity       : Sri Sellandiamman

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces North with a Deepa Sthambam, a 4-pillar mandapam, and Kundam. Trishulam, Balipeedam, and Simha Vahanam are after the Kundam. The Stucco Sellandiamman image is on the top of the north side entrance. The Deity Sri Sellandiamman in the sanctum is in a sitting posture, with 8 hands holding various weapons. Amman’s face is with a ferocious look. Dwarapalakis are at the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum.

No images are in the koshtam. Vinayagar with Nagars are in the ardha mandapam. In the outer praharam, Vinayagar with Nagars at the east side entrance under a peepal tree and at kanni moolai. Two Munis with two horses as Kaval Deivam are on the Northwest corner of the temple. In addition to this, there are two memorial stones and a Durgai Sculpture in the outer praharam, which will be written in a separate post.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam and a mukha mandapam. The antarala ceiling has the bas reliefs of fish and Solar and Lunar eclipse representation reliefs.  An Ekathala vimanam is over the sanctum sanctorum. The Vimanam is with 3 kalasams. The adhistanam was constructed with stone and the superstructure above adhistanam was built with bricks.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
Based on the construction and sculptures, the temple may belong to 300 - 400 Years old. An inscription stone belonging to the 19th to 20th Century is kept in the praharam. This Temple is being managed by the HR & CE Department.



POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from regular poojas, special poojas are conducted on Fridays, Amavasya Days. The annual Function will be held along with Pariyur Temple in the month of Margazhi.

The Temple is on the Northeast corner of the Village & North side of Shiva Temple.
This Place Alukuli is on the bus route Gobichettipalayam to Mettupalayam,  9.6 KM from Gobichettipalayam, 12 KM from Nambiyur, 49 KM from Tiruppur and 55 KM from Erode Junction.
Nearest Railway station is Tiruppur.
