Sri Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal Temple / ஸ்ரீ பிரன்ன வெங்கடேச பெருமாள் கோயில், நுங்கம்பாக்கம், Nungambakkam, Chennai Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to this Sri Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal Temple at Nungambakkam was a part of Nungambakkam and Soolaimedu Shiva and Maha Vishnu Temples. The three temples Sri Agatheeswarar Temple, Sri Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal Temple, and Asalathamman temples are being maintained by the Hereditary Trustees.

Some of the salient features of this temple are…..
The temple faces east with a newly ( 2021 ) built 5-tier Rajagopuram. Balipeedam, Kodimaram are in front of Mukha mandapam. Garudan is in the Mukha  mandapam. Dwarapalakas are at the entrance of sanctum Sanctorum. Moolavar is with Sridevi and Bhudevi. Holding Sangu / conch and Chakra in the upper hands and lower right hand is abhaya hastam and the left hand is in kadi hastam. Utsavars are in front of moolavar. 

In Praharam, Padmavathi Thayar, Kothanda Ramar, Sita, and Lakshmana, Hanuman ( Hanuman in Anjali hasta on both sides of sanctum in place of Dwarapalakas ), Anjaneyar Sannidi, Padmavathi Thayar, Lakshmi Narasimhar and Andal. Vikhanasa Acharya, Alwars, Vahanas, Temple chariot are in the prahara /mandapam.



ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of Sanctum Sanctorum, antarala and a ardha mandapam and Mukha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on a upanam and pada bandha adhistanam with silambu kumudam. The Bhitti starts with Vedika. A 3 tier Stucco vesara Vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum. Stucco images of Maha Vishnu’s various avatars are on the Vimanam. The Complete temple was constructed with Bricks and cement concrete. 


HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
During the Chozha period, this place Nungambakkam was in Puliyur Nadu in Puliyur Kottam and the same was mentioned in 11th Century Rajendra Chozha’s copper plate. One of the inscriptions records the construction of the temple by the late Sri Subbu Deivanayaka Mudaliyar, maybe during the beginning of the 19th Century, and his descendants continued as Trustees. Originally the Moolavar was under a peepaul tree and its age is not known. 

Madapalli Viduthy was constructed by Mukundagiri V Ve Raghavan alias Sridhar, from the income received from "Kalki" for the articles written, on 11th December 1960. 

Maha Samprokshanam was conducted to Anjaneyar sannidhi after the renovation and construction of Vimanam on 14th September 1988, by the Parambara trustees.

Dwajasthambam was installed and Samprokshanam was performed on 14th September 1988. 

Mahasamprokshanam was performed to Padmavathy  Thayar sannidhi on 8th July 195... Jeernotharana Ashta Bandhana Maha Samprokshanam was performed on 11th March 1976 ( Rs 22000 was gifted by Thatikonda Nancharamma Charities for the same ),  25th January 1993, 11th June 1998, 31st March 2004, during 2010 and 2017 ( 28th June 2017).

Construction of Maha Mandapam, renovation of Garudan sannidhi, construction of Vimanam for Garudan Sannidhi, Panchavarnam Painting of Perumal Temple Vimanam, and Maha Samprokshanam was performed on 14th September 1988, donated by Smt & Sri Opul Reddy
Sri Ramar Sannidhi was constructed and Mahasamprokshanam was performed on 23rd August 2009.
 







As per the inscription available at Sri Agatheeswarar Temple, near this temple, the same trustees manage this temple and Sri Asalathamman Temple also. The inscription reads as.....

LEGENDS
As per the legend, a small Vaishnava king Bommarajan of Bommarajapuram in Thondai mandalam was suffering from a soolai / stomach ache disease. To get rid of the decease the King prayed to Maha Vishnu. Maha Vishnu came in the King’s dream and blessed him. As a part of thanksgiving, The King constructed this Sri Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal Temple.

But as per the Sri Agatheeswarar temple sthala purana, the king was advised by Maha Vishnu, in his dream, to take a bath in the Temple tank and worship Lord Shiva and Parvati. Then he was relieved from the disease.  

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from regular poojas as per Vaikhanasa agama, special poojas are conducted on Vaikunta Ekadasi, Ramar Jayanthi, Krishna Jayanthi, and Purattasi Saturdays. During the annual Brahmotsavam, the Teppotsavam will be conducted at Sri Agatheeswarar Temple Tank. Annual Brahmotsavam will be held during August-September.

The Street adjacent to Nungambakkam Police Station leads to this temple. About 1.5 KM off from Tank Bund Road ( Pushpa Nagar Bus Stop ).
The temple is 4.5 KM from T Nagar Bus depot, 8.5 KM from Koyambedu, and 6.5 KM from Chennai Central.
Nearest Railway station is Nungambakkam.
