Shri Ananthavalli samedha Shri Agastheeswarar Temple/ அருள்மிகு ஆனந்தவல்லி சமேத அருள்மிகு அகஸ்தீஸ்வரர் திருக்கோயில், பஞ்செட்டி, Panchetti/ Panjetty, Tiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to this Sri Agastheeswarar Temple at Panjetty was a part of the “Shiva and Vishnu Temples Visit, in Tiruvallur District on, 1st September 2024”.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces east with the 5-tier Rajagopuram on the South Side. Agasthiyar Theertham is in front of the temple. Dwajastham, balipeedam, and Rishabam are on the east side.  Dwarapalakas are at the entrance of the Sanctum Sanctorum. Moolavar is on a Square avudayar. In koshtam, Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahma and Durgai.  Nalvar and Palliarai are in the ardha mandapam.
Ambal is in a separate sannidhi facing South. Dwarapalakis are at the entrance of Sanctum Sanctorum. Ambal is in a standing posture with abhaya varada hastam.

In praharam, Utsava mandapam, Vinayagar, Murugan as Brahma Sastha, Nagars with Vinayagar (is under the clutches of Peepal tree), and an Ambal (Head with Naga hood above head), Bairavar, Ishta Lingam, Agasthiyar, Suriyan (Stucco image of Suriyan riding on a chariot pulled by the horses is on the top of the sannidhi), Navagrahas, and Bairavar.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of Sanctum Sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam and mukha mandapam. The Sanctum Sanctorum is on a Pada bandha adhistanam with jagathy, three patta kumudam, and Pattaikai. The Bhitti starts with vedikai. The pilasters are brahma kantha pilasters with kalasam, kudam and palakai and Vettu pothyal. Deva Koshtas are sala style. The prastaram consists of valapi, and kapotam with nasi kudus. The two tala Vesara Vimanam. Shiva, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, and Brahma are in the Tala and Greeva Koshtams.

The temple might have been constructed with red laterite stone and plastered with lime mortar.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The temple may be 700 to 800 years old, and received contributions from Chozhas, Vijayanagaras, and Nayakas. The Rajagopuram with beautiful sculptures was constructed during the Vijayanagara Nayakas period.

Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 25th March 1991, (Moolavar Vimanam and Ardha mandapam after Thirupani) on 27th August 2004, Ambal Sannidhi Vimanam and thirupani to Ardha mandapam and consecrated on 25th March 1991, and 27th August 2008.

Dwajasthambam was installed on 24th August 2001, Dakshinamurthy Mandapam was constructed and consecrated on 06th December 2012,  Agasthiyar sannidhi was constructed and consecrated on 25th March, 1991,

Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted to Bairavar sannidhi on 30th August 2009, sponsored by Mrs Savithiri Ganesan (Maybe the wife of the Cine film actor Gemini Ganesan). 




Mrs Savithiri Ganesan (Maybe the wife of the Cine film actor Gemini Ganesan). They had done similar jobs at many temples in Chennai.  

LEGENDS
As per the legend, Agasthiyar installed and worshipped 108 Shiva Lingas in Thondai Mandalam by Agathiyar on the way to Pothigai Hills to balance the earth during Shiva and Parvati’s celestial wedding. Pandavas are also believed to have come to this temple and worshiped Shiva during their exile.

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from regular poojas, special poojas are conducted on pradosham, Maha Shivaratri, Vinayagar Chaturthi, Karthigai Deepam, Thai Pongal, New Year's Day, etc.

TEMPLE TIMINGS
The temple will be kept open between 07.00 hrs. to 12.00 hrs. and 17.00 hrs. to 20.30 hrs.

The Panjetty is on the Guntur to Chennai Highway, 9 km from Ponneri, 15 km from Gumidipoondi, 18 km from Puzhal, and 31 km from Koyambedu.
The nearest railway station is Ponneri.
