Erumaivetti Ramar Temple / எருமைவெட்டி ராமர் கோயில்/ Sri Kothanda Ramaswamy Temple/ Sri Raghunatha Perumal Temple, New Erumaivettipalayam, Tiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to this Sri Kothanda Ramar Temple at Erumaivettipalayam was a part of the “Shiva and Vishnu Temples Visit, in Tiruvallur District on, 1st September 2024”. The temple is on a small hill on the banks of River Kusasthalai. The temple under Palalayam and reconstruction and renovations are in progress.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces north with steps on the north side. In sanctum sanctorum, Ramar is in Pattabhisheka Kolam. Ramar is in a sitting posture and Sita is on the left lap of Ramar. Lakshmana and Hanuman are on the right side of Ramar. All three Murtis are made of Salagrama. Lakshmi Narayana and Alwars are in ardha mandapam. In koshtam Vinayagar, Varahar, Maha Vishnu and Durgai.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of Sanctum Sanctorum, antarala, and ardha mandapam. The Sanctum Sanctorum is on a Pada bandha adhistanam with jagathy, three patta kumudam, and Pattaikai. The Bhitti starts with vedikai. The pilasters are brahma kantha pilasters with kalasam, kudam and palakai and Vettu pothyal. Deva Koshtas are sala style. Kumbha banjaras are in between salaipathi and karnapathi. The prastaram consists of valapi and kapotam. The two tala vesara Vimanam.

The temple up to prastaram was constructed with red laterite stone and above prastaram was constructed with bricks. The temple might have been reconstructed during the 20th Century. During that time the mukha mandapa was pulled down and roof slabs were used for the steps.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
As per the Vijayanagara period inscription, this hill was called Ramagiri and the presiding deity was called as Sri Raghunatha Perumal. This place was in Jayangonda Chozhamandalathu Vikrama Chozhavalanattu Puzhal Kottathu, Erumaivetti Palayam. The ombadaikilavi of the inscription mentions that if anyone stops this endowment, it is equivalent to giving his wife to an umbrella holder of a Barber.
  
விஜயநக மன்னர் கிருஷ்ணதேவராயர் ஆட்சியின் ( Saka 1469, 1547 CE  CE  ), கோதண்டராம சுவாமி கோயில் அர்த்த மண்டபத்தில் உள்ள தனிப்பலகைக் கல்வெட்டு ( இரு பகுதியாக உடைந்து உள்ளது ), இராமகிரியில் இரகுநாத பெருமாளுக்குத் தன்ம சாதனம் செய்து கொடுக்கப்பட்டது. இராயர் மற்றும் திருமலை நாயக்கருக்குப் புண்ணியமாக இக்கொடை வழங்கப்பட்டது. நாயக்கர், செட்டியார் மற்றும் அதிகாரிகள் இடம் பெறும் இக்கல்வெட்டில் ஆயிரச்சேரி, விளாங்காடு, காட்டூர், ஆலங்காடு, பழவேற்காடு போன்ற பகுதிகளிலும் நன்கொடை தரப்பட்ட விவரமுள்ளது.

The Vijayanaga King Krishnadevarayar ( Saka 1469, 1547 CE  CE  ) inscription, on two pieces of a broken slab in the Ramaswamy temple on the Rāmagiri hill near the village, records the assignment of taxes by Perumakkaļ Nāyaka, Mrityañjaya Nayaka and others for offerings and worship in the temple of Raghunatha Perumal on the Rāmagiri hill at Erumaivettipālayam in the Pulalkottan a sub-division of Vikramasõļa Vaļanādu. The gift was made for the king at the Tirumalai Nayaka.

LEGENDS
As per the legend, while Sri Rama and Sita were taking a bath in the River Pazhal ( this river which flowed South to North at this place, was praised by the Kargeya Muni ) the demon Mahaishasuran with buffalo head, tried to touch Sita. Rama created Devadas and killed Mahishasuran and also posted the Grama devadas to guard the village.

The temple is under palalayam and no special poojas are conducted.

The place Erumaivettipalayam is about 6.6 KM from Karanodai, 18 KM from Ponneri, 21 KM from Puzhal, 31 KM from Koyambedu, and 31 KM from Chennai central.
