TITLE : Pulikuthi Nadukal, Sati and Memorial
Stone.
PERIOD :
18th – 19th century
DETAILS :
This group consists of two Hero
Stones. The first hero stone is a Pulikuthi Hero stone. In this, the hero with a
big moustache and his wife are shown in Anjali hastham. A tiger is shown in a standing
posture on the left side of the hero. The hero killed the tiger with a trishul.
Both Hero & his wife are shown with big tufts and wearing ornaments over the
neck and ears.
The second Nadukal is a Sati Stone. In
this, the hero with a big moustache, shown in Anjali hastam, is wearing ornaments
over the neck and elongated earlobes. A royal dress is shown below his waist.
The hero’s wife is also shown with a big tuft and wearing ornaments around her

lemon in her left hand.
The richness of this sati stone with
ornamental works, toranas, and garland on the top indicates that this may
belong to a king / Zamin. It is said that these Hero stones are the property
of Samathur Zamin.
In the 18th – 19th century, style inscriptions
are found on the base and back side of the Pulikuthi Nadukal, Sati, and Memorial Stone.

PLACE : Singanallur
TITLE : Memorial Stones
PERIOD :
16th – 20th-century
DETAILS :
These memorial stones are installed in
a mandapam. The mandapam was built using the 12th – 13th century Kongu
Chozha period temple’s mandapa pillars. Since this mandapam was built by
Samathur Zamin, the memorial stones may be Zamindhars of Samathur. There
are 5 memorial stones, of which one is sculpted for Zamin and his wife. All
are in Anjali hastam and wearing ornaments over the neck and elongated
earlobes. The earlier period memorial stones are with tufts, and the latter period memorial stones are with turbans.
