The visit to this Amana Lingeswarar Temple and Mumurthy Temple at
Kanjampatti was a part of “Temples, Hero Stones, Memorial Stones, Hero
Stambhas (Mala Koil) and Heritage Sites Visit, around Pollachi” on 31st January 2026 and 1st February 2026.
Thanks to Mr Bala, Mrs Padma Jyothi, and Mrs Sakthi Prakash for accompanying
me on both days. Locally, this temple is called the
Malayandi Temple.
Moolavar: Sri Amana Lingeswarar
Some of the salient features of this
temple are…
The temple faces east with a Deepa Stambham/
Garudathoon. A mini Rajagopuram with stucco images of Shiva, Parvati, Vinayagar
and Murugan. At the entrance of the temple. Balipeedam and Rishabam are in front of the sanctum sanctorum. Stucco dwarapalakas are at the entrance of the sanctum
sanctorum. Shiva Lingam is on a round avudayar. A rock in front of Moolavar is
worshipped as Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. In koshtam Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu
and Brahma
In the praharam, Vinayagar, Murugan, and
Navagrahas.
A memorial stone and a leg are installed
abutting the mandapam pillars.
Mummoorthy Temple
The Mummoorthy temple is at the top of
the rocky hill. Steps are chiselled on the rock up to the middle level. The temple
faces east with a Deepa Stambham and a Rishabam. In the sanctum sanctorum, Maha
Vishnu, Shiva and Bahma. Shiva is in a sitting posture, whereas Maha Vishnu and
Brahma are in a standing posture.
ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of the sanctum
sanctorum, the ardha mandapam and an open mukha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is
on a upanam and adhistanam. The vimanam consists of adhistanam, bhitti,
prastaram and eka tala vesara Vimanam. Stucco images of Shiva, Dakshinamurthy,
Maha Vishnu and Brahma are on the greeva koshtams. The sigaram is of vesara
style with maha nasis and alpha nasis.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It is said that the original temple dates from the 10th to 12th century Chozha period, and the
present temple may have been reconstructed with bricks and concrete in recent years.
After thirupani Maha Kumbhabhishekam
was conducted on 10th February 1992.
LEGENDS
It is believed that the original
temple may be a Jain temple and may have been converted into a Shiva temple during the decline of Jainism.
POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from oru kala special poojas are
conducted on pradosham and maha Shivaratri days.
TEMPLE TIMINGS
The temple will be kept open during
morning hours, for oru kala pooja, and there is no fixed time.

The temple at Kanjampatti is about 14
km from Pollachi, 23 km from Udumalaipettai, and 50 km from Coimbatore.
