The temple faces east with a balipeedam and Rishabam. Moolavar is small on a round avudaiyar. No images are in the koshtams.

ARCHITECTURE

The total temple was reconstructed with brick and cement concrete. The temple consists of the sanctum sanctorum and an open mukha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on an adhistanam. The temple was built in a village style without conforming to any architectural style. There is no vimanam above the sanctum sanctorum. 

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS

The temple belongs to the 10^th to 11^th century Chozha period. An inscription tablet was found in this temple. For safety reasons, the same was moved to Sri Brahmeswarar Temple in the same village. The inscription records some endowment; since the inscription is damaged, we couldn’t get more details.

The temple faces east with a balipeedam and Garudan. Thulasi Madam is in the mandapam. Moolavar Sundararaja Perumal is with Sridevi and Bhudevi. No murtis or images are found in the koshtam.

ARCHITECTURE

The temple was constructed with stone from adhistanam to prastaram, and the vimanam over the prastaram was constructed with bricks. The temple consists of the sanctum sanctorum, the ardha mandapam, and a recently built open mukha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on an adhistanam. The bhitti is plain, without pilasters.

The brick vimanam is of 2 talas, greevam, and a dravida sigaram. Maha Vishnu’s various avatars are on the vimanam tala and greeva koshtams.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS

Since no inscriptions were found, based on the construction, the temple may be 200 to 300 years old. The vimanam needs renovation.

The temple is under the control of the Tamil Nadu HR & CE Department.

This 108^th Ahimsa Walk, organised by the Tamil Jains at Kadapakkam, near Pulicat, was a part of “Shiva, Vishnu Temples visit and 108^th Ahimsa Walk” in Tiruvallur District on 29^th March 2026.

அஹிம்சை நடை 108.

வழக்கமாக மாதத்தின் முதல்வாரத்தில் நடைபெறும் அஹிம்சை நடை, இந்த மாதம் சில நாட்கள் கழிந்து 29ந்தேதி ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளதாக அறிவிப்பு வந்தது. அந்த அறிவிப்பு வருவதற்கு முன்பே திருவள்ளூர் மாவட்டம் கடப்பாக்கத்தின் சிவன் கோயில் வளாகத்தில் சென்னை புழல் பரத், நேமிராஜ் மற்றும் அவர்களின் குழுவினரால் இனம் காணப்பட்ட தீத்தங்கரரின், குறுகிய காணொளிப்படம் வாட்ஸப் புலனத்தில் காண நேரந்தது. ஏற்கனவே, தூங்கானை மாட (ககஜபிருஷ்ட விமானம்) கோயில்களை ஆவனப்படுத்திக்கொண்டு இருப்பதால், அக்காணொளியில் காணப்பட்ட சிவன் கோயில் தூங்கானைமாட அமைப்பை ஒத்துக் காணப்பட்டதால், கோயில் மற்றும் தீர்த்தங்கரர் என இரண்டையும் எப்படியும் காண வேண்டும் என்ற ஆவலை மேலும் அதிகரிக்கச் செய்தது. அனால் அந்த சிவன் கோயிலின் சரியான அமைவிடம் கிடைக்காததால், நண்பர்களின் உதவியுடன் கூகுல் மேப்பில் ஓரளவு கண்டு பிடித்து, மார்ச் மாதம் 29ந்தேதி கண்டிப்பாகச் செல்ல திட்டமிட்டு இருந்தேன். நான் செல்ல திட்டமிட்ட தேதியும், 108வது அஹிம்சை நடையின் தேதியும் இணைந்தது ஒரு அதிர்ஷ்டமே. திட்டமிட்டபடியே, நான் மேலும் இரண்டு கோயில்களின் தரிசனம் முடித்துவிட்டு கடப்பாக்கத்தில் அஹிம்சை நடை அன்பர்களுக்காக காத்து இருந்தேன்.

 

அஹிம்சை நடை அன்பர்கள் பேராசிரியர் கனக அஜித்ததாஸ் அவர்களின் தலைமையில், திருவள்ளூர் மாவட்டம், மீஞ்சூர் அருகே சுப்பாரெட்டிபாளையத்தின் ஒரு பகுதியான பள்ளிபுரத்தின் வயல்வெளியில் காணப்பட்ட, எண்ணைச் சாமியார் என அழைக்கப்படும் தீர்த்தங்கரரை தரிசனம் செய்துவிட்டு (வானமே கூரையாக வெய்யிலிலும் மழையிலும் சுமார் ஆயிரம் வருடங்களாக தியானத்தில் அமர்ந்து இருக்கின்றார். ஆய்வாளர்கள் இத்தீர்த்தங்கரர் சோழர்காலத்தைச் சார்ந்தவராக கூறுகின்றனர்) சுமார் 11.30 மணி அளவில் கடப்பாக்கம் வந்து சேர்ந்தனர். தீர்த்தங்கரருக்கு அபிசேகம் ஆராதனைகள் செய்யப்பட்டு பூமாலை அணிவிக்கப்பட்டு பிராத்தனை நடத்தப்பட்டது. பின்பு அஹிம்சை நடை குழுவினரால், கோயிலின் நிர்வாகப் பொருப்பாளர் திரு. திருவேங்கடம் அவர்கட்கு மரியாதை செய்யப்பட்டது. மேலும் அஹிம்சை நடைக் குழுவினரால் ஒரு சிற்றாலயம் அமைக்க அனுமதி கோரிக்கையும் வைக்கப்பட்டது. ஊர் மக்களிடமும் கலந்து பேசிய பின்பு சாதகமான பதில் அளிப்பதாக உறுதி கூறினார். இந்த மாத 108 ஆவது அஹிம்சை நடை இளையோர்களால் முன்னெடுக்கப்பட்டு நடத்தப்பட்டது ஒரு தனிசிறப்பு.

தீர்த்தங்கரர் பற்றிய தகவல்கள்….

தீர்த்தங்கரர் சுமார் இரண்டு அடி உயரத்தில் புடைப்புச் சிற்பமாக செதுக்கப்பட்டு உள்ளது. தீர்த்தங்கரர் காயோசர்கம் என்ற நின்றநிலையில் காணப்படுகின்றார். தலைக்கு மேல் முக்குடை காணப்படுகின்றது. இருபுறமும் சாமரதாரிகள் காணப்படுகின்றனர். வழக்கமாகக் காட்டப்படும், அசோகா சுருள் கொடி காட்டப்படாமல், திருவாசி, அதன் இருமுனைகளில் விரிந்த மலர் போன்ற அமைப்பு காட்டப்பட்டு உள்ளது. மேலும் தமிழக பகுதி எங்கும் காணக்கிடைக்காத சங்கு மற்றும் சக்கரம்/ தாமரை மலர் (செல்வத்தின் அதிபதிகளான சங்க நிதி, மற்றும் பத்ம நிதியின் அடையாளமாக) புடைப்புச்சிற்பங்கள் தீர்த்தங்கரர் தலையின் இருபுறமும் காட்டப்பட்டு இருப்பது ஒரு கூடுதல் சிறப்பு ஆகும். ஆய்வாளர்கள் இந்த தீர்த்தங்கரர் சுமார் 14 அல்லது 15 ஆம் நூற்றாண்டு காலத்தைச் சார்ந்தவராக இருக்கலாம் என்று கருதுகின்றனர்.

கோயிலின் நிர்வாகப் பொருப்பாளர் திரு. திருவேங்கடம் அவர்கள் கூறுகையில், இந்த சிவன் கோயில் 2003 ஆம் வருடம் வரை பாழடைந்து கிடந்ததாகவும், புலம் பெயர்ந்த பெரியோர்கள் மற்றும் கிராமத்தாரின் பங்களிப்புடன் கோயில் புரணமைக்கப்பட்டதாகவும், சிவன் அப்பாலீஸ்வரர் எனவும், அதற்கு பின்புறம் உள்ள குளம் அப்பாகுளம் என அழைக்கப்பட்டதாகவும் கூறினார் அப்புரணமைப்பின் போது, ஜேசிபி இயந்திரத்தினால், இத்தீர்த்தங்கரர் வெளியே வந்தார் எனக்கூறினார். (சேதம் ஏற்படாமல் இருந்ததே பெரிய அதிசம்). சைவ சிற்பங்களில் இருந்து மாறுபட்டு இருந்ததால், கோயிலில் நிலை நிறுத்தவில்லை எனவும் கூறினார்.

The temple faces east with a temple tank called Appa Kulam on the back side of the temple. Balipeedam and Rishabam are in front of the temple. Vinayagar and Murugan are on both sides of the sanctum sanctorum. Moolavar is on a round avudaiyar; in koshtam, Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma, and Durgai.

Ambal Sri Dharmasamvardini is in a separate sannidhi that faces south. Ambal is in a standing posture with abhaya varada hastam.

In the praharam, Chandikeswarar, Bairavar, Nagars, and a Jain Tirthankara image.

ARCHITECTURE

The whole temple was constructed with brick and concrete. The temple was built in the Gajabrushta style from adhistanam to sigaram. The temple consists of the sanctum sanctorum and ardha mandapam. The adhistanam consists of jagathy, muppattai kumudam, and pattikai. The bhitti starts with vedikai. The pilasters are of Brahmakantha pilasters with kalasam, kudam, palakai, and vettu pothyal. The prastaram consists of valapi and kapotam with nasi kudus. One tala, greevam, and sigaram are on the bhumidesam. Shiva, Dakshinamurthy, and Brahma are in the greeva koshtam.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS

It is said that the Shiva temple was in a dilapidated condition till 2003, and the same was reconstructed by the people who moved from this village and the village people. Shiva was called Sri Appaleeswarar, and the tank was called Appa Kulam by the local people; there is evidence for the same.

A 10^th to 11^th century Chozha period damaged inscription stone slab is lying in the temple. The inscription belongs to SvathiSri Rajakesari Barmar’s 7^th reign. The inscription records the endowment of burning a perpetual lamp for the same Sava moova peradu, which was gifted by more than one person. Since the inscription stone is in damaged condition, the King’s name and year are not known.

The temple faces east with a balipeedam and Rishabam. A stucco image of Shiva and Ambal is on the top of the entrance to the maha mandapam. No images are in the koshtams.

Ambal is in a separate sannidhi, facing south in the mandapam. Ambal is in a standing posture with abhaya varada hastam.

ARCHITECTURE

The total temple was reconstructed with brick and cement concrete. The temple consists of the sanctum sanctorum, ardha mandapam and maha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on an adhistanam. Brahma kantha pilasters with vettu pothyal are on the bhitti. The prastaram consists of valapi and kapotam. The upri tala, greevam and vesara sigaram are above the bhumidesam.

The Rishaba Mandapam pillars are made of old stone pillars with beautiful flower motifs.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS

It is said that the original temple belongs to the Pallava period, and evidence has been found to prove the same. The bas-reliefs on the pillars indicate that the temple may be 300 to 400 years old. Since the temple was reconstructed with bricks, the old mandapa and temple stone structures were dumped outside the temple. 

LEGENDS

The temple legend may be the same as that of the Sri Kalatheeswarar of Sri Kalahasti. The name indicates that Shiva was worshipped by a snake, which is also a big (Maha).
