Some of
the salient features of this temple are...
The
temple faces east with a tall 3-tier Rajagopuram without stucco images. The
Moolavars ( 2 Nos ) are in a thatched
shed and waiting for Kumbhabhishekam during my earlier visit. Kambathadi Vinayagar, Dwajasthambam /
Kodimaram, Rishabam are after the rajagopuram. Moolavar is a little tall on a
round avudayar. In koshtam, Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma and
Durgai.
In
Praharam Ambal Sannidhi ( Ambal is in standing posture with abhaya varada
hastam ), Oushatha Vinayagar, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniyar, A Shiva lingam, Mahalakshmi,
Suryan, Danvanthiri and Chandikeswarar.
ARCHITECTURE
The whole
temple was constructed with bricks and cement. The temple consists of sanctum
sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam, and an open metacolour sheet mukha mandapam.
The sanctum sanctorum is on a pada bandha adhistanam. A 3 tier Vimanam nagara – vesara greevam is on
the sanctum sanctorum. The Vimanam is without images.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It is
believed that the original temple was constructed during the Pallava period and the
temple is more than 1300 years old. To Justify there is no evidence available in the form of inscriptions or records. It was also said that old
temple stones with inscriptions were used by the villagers for different purposes. During my
visit, the temple was under reconstruction with bricks by the devotees.
In 1920,
Kanchi Maha Periyava Sankarachariya, on his way stopped at this place and
worshipped Shiva of this temple after taking a bath in the temple tank, Thaila
kulam. He also indicated that the temple’s Shiva was installed as worshipped by
Devas.
After re-construction
Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted in 2013, crossing all the hurdles, which
included a Shortage of funds, legal problems, etc.. ( A pumpkin with a snake's hood yield, also attracted many people to this Village and this made the problem creators to become calm. )
Construction
of Dyana mandapam was started on 28-10-2018 at an estimated cost of 20 lakhs (

LEGENDS
It was
said that there were 5 Shiva temples also called Pancha Vaidhya Sthalas
constructed with similar features around this Sri Vaidhyanathar Temple and Vaitheeswarankoil
Shiva temple.
A
Maharishi Danvantri was meditating in this temple and was healing the ailments
of the Villagers through herbal medicines. When this was known to the King,
he asked to bring him to the Court. The Maharishi refused to come, and the King
ordered to throw him into the fire. The fire didn’t harm the Maharishi and
came back alive. Angered King came and destroyed the temple, and constructed the
present Vaitheeswarankoil Temple which is 6 KM away from this temple.
