Sri Adi Bhagwan Digambar Jain Temple, Adambakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

29th March 2018.
A special post on Mahaveer Jayanti, a celebration at Sri Adi Bhagavan Digambar temple at Adambakkam Chennai.  Even though this Jain temple is about 3 KM from my residence and traveled many  times through this temple, Mahaveer Jayanthi gave me an opportunity to visit this temple on 29th March 2018. Mahaveer is the 24th Tirthankara, who lived 72 years during the 6th century BC. Some experts are of the opinion that he lived in the 5th Century BC. He was born in a royal family as Vardhamana in Bihar to King Siddhartha and Queen Trishala in Bihar. He married Yashoda and had a female child Priyadarshana. At the age of 30, he abandoned everything and became ascetic. After meditation for 12 years, he attained Kevala jnana at the age of 42 and attained moksha at the age of 72.

Now about the Adinath, the first Tirthankara Temple at Vanuvampet (Adambakkam). It was said that the Shri Adinath statue was unearthed in the Chennai area and installed here. The temple is in a two-story building facing east with a Manasthambam in front. On the Ground floor sannidhi for Yakshi and a marble idol of Tirthankara. Adi Bhagavan is on the first floor and brass tirthankara statues are in front. During my Yathra to Mount Kailash, I was told that Mount Kailash is a sacred place for three religions Hindus, Jains, and Buddhists. I feel very happy, that I visited  the holy place of Mount Kailash where Sri Adinath, or the Rishabhanatha attained moksha.  Witnessed the Abhishekam and Arathi to Mahaveer and Sri Adinatha at the Jain temple.

HOW TO REACH:
This temple is at No 16, Gandhi salai, Vanuvam Pettai  (Adambakkam), Chennai.
About 500 meters from Adambakkam DAV School.
