Sri Arulmalai Andavar Temple / ஸ்ரீ அருள்மலை ஆண்டவர் கோயில், தோரணவாவி / Thoranavavi, near Gobichettipalayam, Erode District, Tamil Nadu.

08th December 2018.
On the way to Kolappalur from Kavindapadi we passed through the Thoranavavi Arulmalai Andavar Temple. Our ancestors worshiped Arulmalai Andavar as a Kulatheivam, till they found out the Sri Veeramathi Amman. But still our community people of our Village used to Visit this temple. After my last visit, the Kumbhabhishekam was conducted in 2018  and a lot of changes have been made.

Presiding Deity: Sri Murugan / Arulmalai Andavar

Some of the important features of this temple are.....
The Presiding deity is Murugan, without Sri Valli and Devasena, holding a stick, like Palanimalai Murugan. But how he was named Si Kirubakara Subramania Swamy?.. is not known.

During the recent renovations, the Shiva Lingam and a Rishabam, which are kept in a small sannidhi were shifted to the renovated old Mandapam built during the Vijayanagara Nayaks period. Vinayagar was also shifted to the Shiva Temple mandapam.

The Murugan in the main sanctum sanctorum with the front mandapam  was completely dismantled and redone. The entrance is also changed. The height of the Vimanam also increased.   There is no sannidhi for Amman since the presiding deity is Murugan or Arulmalai Andavar. A safety locker room was created for safe keeping of Urchavars. A new Sapthakannis sannidhi was created on the back side of the main sanctum.

At the base of the hill, a Vinayagar sannidhi with a metacolour sheet shed was created after removing the old dead tree. More details on my previous visit to this Sri Arulmalai Andavar Temple were recorded in one of my posts on this blog.

This Temple presiding deity Sri Arumalai Murugan was praised by the 18th Century Kullaiyan’s son and poet Avinashi Pulavar in his “Thingalur nondi Nadakam”.
