HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It was told that the Amman was at the Mathaku / Sluice gate of the Edamichi Lake excavated during the Pallava Period. Hence Amman was called Mathakadi Kanni Amman later turned to Maduvadi Kanni Temple / Mathavadi Kanni Koil.

The Sluice gate/ Mathaku was renovated in recent years.  The Pallava period fragment inscription stone inscribed in Grantham is kept on the banks of the lake.

This fragment of the Pallava period Grantha inscription mentions the excavation of this eri ( Thadaka ) and the construction of a Madhaku / Sluice. The word Thulabaram mentioned here may mean that some gift has been given Through Thulabaram   ( Thanks to Pon Karthikeyan )
