Sri Vaikunda Perumal Temple / ஸ்ரீ வைகுந்த பெருமாள் கோயில், சிறுதாவூர், Sirudavoor / Siruthavur, Chengalpattu District, Tamil, Nadu.

The visit to this Sri Vaikunda Perumal Temple at Siruthavur on Thiruporur to Thirukalukundram Road was a part of Pallava & Chozha period Shiva and Vishnu Temples and Heritage site Visits at Payyanur, Alathur and  Siruthavur  of Chengalpattu District on 17th October 2021.

Some of the salient features of this temple are…
The temple is facing east. Two old stone pillars are erected in front of the Temple to show its antiquity. A small vilakku thoon, Balipeedam and Garudan are in the mukha mandapam. Stucco Dwarapalakas are at the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of Sanctum sanctorum, ardha mandapam and mukha mandapam.  This  pallava period temple was reconstructed with brick during recent years retaining the adhistanam. The Pallava inscriptions are on the Kumuda of adhistanam.

An ekathala Vesara Vimanam is on the sanctum Sanctorum,. Stucco images of Ramar, Sita, Lakshmanar,  Ananda Sayana Perumal, Varahar are on the Greeva Koshtam.



HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The original temple was built during Pallava period by Parthivendra Varman and Pallava period inscriptions are found on the Kumuda of adhisthana. As per the inscriptions of the Shiva temple this place was called as  Narasinga Chaturvedi Mangalam and Maha Vishnu was called as “Thirumetrali Nindaruliya Peruman” and this temples inscription “Parasurama Vinnagara Alwar”. The Temple was called as “Parasurama vinnagaram”.

The inscription records the endowment of appointing 5 peoples for singing (reciting divyaprabandham .. ?) during Naivedyam by Sivan Singampulli. The lands gifted to them are exempted from taxes.

An inscription records the endowment of burning a lamp by Devanarasingam, who belongs to Punnaivayil on the banks of river Cauvery. For the same Goats / sheeps were gifted.

In 1052 CE, The Vennai Kooththalwar ( Krishna ) Idol was installed by Thandaya Kiramaviththan.

Another inscription records that the Siruthavur Villagers and the Sabha people have agreed to pay the taxes for the land gifted to this Temple “Parasurama Vinnagaram”.

Payyanur alias Rajakesari chaturvedi mangalam and Siruthavur alias Narasinga Chaturvedi mangalam sabha people have donated Lands as thirunamaththukani.


HOW TO REACH
This temple on the east banks of big tank and the Village is about 500 meters off main road.
This place Siruthavur is 6.5 KM from Thiruporur,  29 KM from Chengalpattu,  40.6 KM from Tambaram and 68 KM from Chennai.
Nearest Railway station is Chengalpattu.
