LEGENDS
It
is believed that Agasthiyar came to this place and worshiped Lord Shiva of this
temple. During the night, Agasthiyar stayed under this temple’s Peepal Tree. He was
feeling thirsty and there was no water in the kendy. So he prayed to Lord Shiva. Lord
Shiva appeared before him and gave him water to drink. Hence this place is not starved out of
drinking water.
It is also believed that Kuberan and Soman ( Chandran ) worshiped Lord Shiva and were relieved from the Curse. Hence Lord Shiva is called Sri Somanatheeswarar and this temple is also a Parihara Sthalam.
