LEGENDS
Devotees worship Angala Parameswari for Child boon, to remove marriage obstacles, to get rid of Black magic / billi soonyam, eval, etc.  It is believed that after taking a bath in the temple tank, circumambulate the temple, on 3 Amavasya days and all the wishes will be fulfilled.

As per the legend, Brahma did a penance on Shri Shiva for five heads like, Shiva. Satisfied by his penance, Shiva gave the boon of 5 heads. After getting 5th head, Brahma was over proud of him and behaved like Shiva. Since Ambal had the confusion of identification, asked Shiva to remove one head of Brahma. Shiva sent his Bhuta ganas to cut the 5th head. But the head was growing as soon as it was cut. Then Shiva himself came and cut the 5th head. But the 5th head also grew. In the meantime, Ambal requested her brother Maha Vishnu to help to solve this problem. Maha Vishnu said that 999 heads were cut and after cutting the 1000th head, Shiva should hold it in hand without dropping it on the ground. After cutting the 100th head, Brahma's 5th head stuck to Shiva’s hand, and with that, he roamed in many places.

In the meantime, Brahma’s wife Saraswati cursed Ambal to take Rakshasa's appearance. Ambal came to Melmalayanur with a rakshasa appearance wearing shabby clothes. As per Maha Vishnu’s advice, Ambal prepared 3 balls of food and fed 2 balls on the Brahma’s Kabalam. The third one, Ambal dropped on the ground. The Brahma’s 5th Kabalam left Shiva’s hand and started eating the 3rd ball of food. As soon as the 5th head left the hand, Shiva Closed his hands and got relieved from Brahma Hatya dosha.  Ambal pressed the 5 head with her leg and it went into the earth and disappeared. This was celebrated as Mayana Kollai at MelMalayanur. The same Ambal also blesses her devotees at this temple as Angala Parameswari.

A lot of Locks are locked on the grills of the temple tank. It is believed that the unsolved problems will be solved by Lord Shiva and Angala Parameswari of this temple. By providing the lock.
