Hero Stone / Thalaipalikal / தலைபலிக்கல் / நடுகல், ஓரத்தி / Orathy / Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to this Thalaipali kal aka Hero Stone  at Sri Parasurameswarar Temple, Orathy was a part of “Shiva, Maha Vishnu and Amman Temples Visit”, in Perumbairkandigai and Orathy on 14^th April 2024. It was a long search for this Hero stone and happy to found the same.

This Thalaipali Nadukal is erected on the south side of the Dwajasthambam in Sri Parasurameswarar Temple at Orathy Village, Chengalpattu District. The Hero stone measures 175 cm height and 75 cm width. This Hero stone is of two level. In the lower level the hero is holding his head after cutting. On the left side Shiva lingam is shown in a temple, This means the hero offers his head in a Shiva Temple.

In the upper level, the Hero is taken to Shiva Loka by the Deva makalirs / ladies. Two ladies are shown with whisk. Again The Hero is shown worshipping Shiva in a Temple.

The inscription is inscribed in Tamil and Kannada languages of the same message. The Inscription records that during Rakshtrakooda King Kannara Devan alias Krishna-III’s 24^th reign year, Gangaiyan, a Elephant army official offers his head for proper functioning of the sluice erected in Kalleri to feed water to 7 Village fields.

சிவன் கோயிலுள் கொடிமரத்திற்கு தென்புறம் தலைப்பலி கொடுக்கும் நடுகல் சிற்பம் உள்ளது. கல்லில் சிற்பத்தில் தமிழ் மற்றும் கன்னட்த்தில் கல்வெட்டு வெட்டப்பட்டு உள்ளது. தமிழிலும் கன்னடத்திலும் ஒரே செய்தி பொறிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இராட்டிரக்கூட மன்னன் ஸ்ரீகன்னர தேவனாகிய மூன்றாம் கிருஷ்ணனுடைய 24 ஆவது ஆட்சியாண்டில் கஜன அதிகாரி ( யானைப்படை அதிகாரி என்க ) கங்கையான் என்பான் கல்லேரியின் கீழ்க்கரையின் மூலம் ஏழு ஊர் வயல்களுக்குத் தண்ணீர் பாயும் வகையில் மதகு சிறப்புற அமைய, தன் தலையைத் தானே வெட்டி, சிவபெருமானுக்குத் தலைப்பலி கொடுத்துள்ளான்.

“ஸ்ரீ கன்னரதேவர்க்கு யாண்டு 24ஆவது கஜன அதிகாரி கங்கயஐ உரத்தி மாதேவர்க்கு செத அட்டு நாங்காம் கல்லேரிக் கீழ்க்கரையில் பட…… குட்டுச்செறு….வா….ரெ…. மூர் தலைமேலது உ”

என்று கல்வெட்டு வெட்டப்பட்டு உள்ளது. 175 செ. மீ. உயரமும் 75 செ. மீ. அகலமும் கொண்ட இக்கல்லில் வீரன் தன் தலையைத் தானே அறிந்து பலி தரும் உருவமும் வானவமகளிர் அவனை மேல் உலகத்திற்கு வரவேற்கும் காட்சியும் செதுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.
