Jyeshta Devi at Sri Thanthondreeswarar Temple, Perumbairkandigai and The Smallest Jyeshta Devi / Thavvai at Sri Parasurameswarar Temple, Orathy, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to this Jyeshta Devi / Thavvai Sculptures at Sri Thanthondreeswarar Temple at Perumbairkandigai and Sri Parasurameswarar Temple at Orathy, was a part of “Shiva, Maha Vishnu and Amman Temples Visit”, in Perumbairkandigai and Orathy on 14^th April 2024.

JYESHTA DEVI, SRI THANTHONDREESWARAR TEMPLE, PERUMBAIRKANDIGAI

This Jyeshta Devi is in Sri Thanthondreeswarar Temple at Perumbairknadigai. This Jyeshta Devi sculpture is on a flat stone and only half is visible out side. Do not know whether Jyeshta is sitting in Padmasana ( may be a make over ), since most of the Jyeshta Devi sculptors are seen with legs in hanging position from the pedestal. Both the Hands are on the thigh. Manthan and Manthi are in standing posture on both sides. A crow flag is shown behind Manthan and two chamaras / whisks are on both side of Jyeshta Devi. She is wearing ornaments around the neck, Padra kundala on both ears.

JYESHTA DEVI, SRI PARASURAMESWARAR TEMPLE, ORATHY.

This is the smallest Jyeshta Devi sculpture that I had ever seen. This Jyeshta Devi sculpture is at Si Parasurameswarar Temple, Orathy in Chengalpattu District.  Jyeshta Devi is sculpted out of a small slab stone measuring one feet by one feet. The Jyeshta Devi is shown with big breast and normal stomach & legs. She is in sitting posture with right hand in abhaya hastam and left hand on the pedestal. A crow flag is shown on her left side. Manthan and Manthi are in standing posture on both sides of Jyeshta Devi.

சுமார் ஒரு அடிக்கு ஒரு அடி என்ற அளவிலான பலகை கல்லில் செதுக்கப்பட்ட சிறிய ஜேஷ்டாதேவி எனப்படும் தவ்வையின் சிற்பம், ஒரத்தி கிராமத்தின் ஸ்ரீ பரசுரமேஸ்வரர் கோயிலில் காணப்படுகின்றது. தவ்வை பருத்த மார்பகங்களுடனும், மெலிந்த வயிறு மற்றும் கால்களுடன் காணப்படுகின்றார். தவ்வையின் வலக்கரம் அபய முத்திரையுயிலும் இடதுகரம் அமரும் மேடை மீது வைத்து காணப்படுகின்றார். காதுக்களில் பத்ரகுண்டலங்களும், கழுத்து மற்றும் கைகளில் ஆபரணங்களும் காட்டப்பட்டு உள்ளது. காக்கை கொடி தவ்வையின் இட்துபுறம் காட்டப்பட்டு உள்ளது. மாந்தனும் மாந்தியும் இருபுறமும் நின்ற நிலையில் காணப்படுகின்றனர்.
