The visit to this Abbey Waterfall, at Kalakeri
Nidugane, in Kodagu District,
Karnataka, was a part of “Kodagu Heritage Walk”, from 22nd to 24th
May 2026, organised by “எண்திசை வரலாற்று மரபுநடைக்குழு”.
Abbey Falls is a
spectacular 70-foot waterfall in Coorg (Kodagu), Karnataka, cascading into the
Kaveri River. Located just 18 to 20 km from Madikeri town, it is easily
accessible via a short 30-minute walk through dense coffee and spice
plantations from the Mandalpatti vehicle terminus. Jeeps and autos are
available from the Mandalpatti vehicle terminus. Buses and vans are not allowed.
The Abby Falls is open
daily from 9.00 hrs to 17.00 hrs and costs Rs. 30 for adults, with a small additional
parking fee if you bring a vehicle (approx. Rs. 20 for bikes).
The falls area is
well-maintained, with a hanging bridge that faces the waterfall, offering a stunning
vantage point for photography (but the hanging bridge was damaged and not
rectified as of May 2026). Considering the safety of the visitors, swimming and
bathing in the falls are strictly prohibited. The best time to visit is during the monsoon and post-monsoon, i.e., from July to December. During our visit in May
2026, the water in the falls was moderate.
