LEGENDS
The epic tale of Lord Krishna's marriages to Rukmani (his first and chief queen, an avatar of Lakshmi) and Satyabhama (his third wife, an avatar of Bhudevi) explores divine romance, the trials of sibling ego, and how true devotion always outweighs material pride.

Rukmani, the beautiful princess of Vidarbha, was fiercely devoted to Krishna. Despite her deep love, her arrogant brother Rukmi arranged for her to marry the cruel king Shishupal. Desperate, Rukmini sent a secret letter to Krishna begging him to rescue her. Krishna and his brother Balarama rode to Kundina (the Vidarbha capital) and abducted her. They defeated the combined armies of Shishupal and Jarasandha and successfully brought her to Dwarka to be married.

Satyabhama, a fierce and highly favoured queen, often prided herself on her beauty and her boundless wealth. In the famous legend of Tulabharam, Satyabhama gave Krishna away to the celestial sage Narada in exchange for his teachings. To get her husband back, she was tasked with weighing Krishna against an equivalent value in material wealth.

However, no matter how much gold, silver, and precious jewels Satyabhama piled on the scales, the side holding Krishna wouldn't budge. Humbled and frantic, she sought help from Rukmani. Rukmani approached the scale with a pure heart and, with a prayer of devotion, placed a single sacred Tulsi (basil) leaf beside the pile of gold. Instantly, the scale tipped, outweighing Krishna's physical form. This miracle taught Satyabhama that Krishna's grace cannot be purchased with riches, only with unconditional love and humility.
