The visit to this Sri Sengazhani Amman Temple was
a part of “Madipakkam area Temple’s Visit on 12th July 2026”. This
Sri Sengazhani Amman Temple is on the Sengazhani-Amman Koil Street, in
Pazhuthivakkam, a part of Madipakkam.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces east with a three-tier
Rajagopuram. Balipeedam and dwajasthamabam are after the Rajagopuram. Stucco
images of dwarapalakis are at the entrance of the mukha mandapam. Balipeedam and
Simha vahana are in the open mukha mandapam. Vinayagar and Murugan are at the
entrance of the antarala. In the sanctum sanctorum, Amman is in a sitting posture with
abhaya varada hastam. Amman’s head-size image is at the feet of the moolavar. In the koshtam, Kaumari, Maheswari, Vaishnavi, Brahmi, and Durgai.
In the praharam, Navagrahas, Mangaleshwar, and Nagars.
ARCHITECTURE
The total temple was constructed with bricks and
cement concrete. The temple consists of the sanctum sanctorum, antarala, ardha
mandapam, and an open mukha mandapam. The mukha mandapam parapet wall was
constructed like hara. Amman’s various forms are in the hara.
The sanctum sanctorum is square in shape. The
sanctum sanctorum is on an upanam, pada bandha adhistannam with jagathy,
threepatta kumudam, and pattikai. The bhitti starts with vedikai. The pilasters
are of Brahma kantha pilasters with kalasam, kudam, lotus petals mandi,
palakai, veera kandam, and pothyal. The prastaram consists of valapi and
kapotam. A tier salakara vimanam is in the sanctum sanctorum. Amman’s various
forms are on the tala and greevam.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The temple may have been constructed at the end of the 20th
century. The Punaravarthana Jeernodharana Maha Kumbhabhishekam is conducted on
14th July 2025.
LEGENDS
This temple is dedicated to Sri Sengazhani Amman, the Grama Devata of Puzhuthivakkam, and is believed to be the protector of this
village from evil spirits.
Amman might have obtained the name of Sengazhani
Amman due to the sengazhani flowers grown in the Puzhuthivakkam Lake.
POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from regular poojas, special poojas are
conducted on Amavasya, Pournami, Kiruthigai, Adi month Friday, Ashtami Theipirai, etc.
The annual festival will be conducted in the 4th
week of Adi month grandly. Koozhvaarpu and Theemithi rituals
are also conducted.

Terminus, 14 km from Tambaram, and 22 km from Chennai Central Railway Station.
