The visit to the Mandalpatti Hills, in Kodagu District,
Karnataka, was a part of “Kodagu Heritage Walk”, from 22nd to 24th
May 2026, organised by “எண்திசை வரலாற்று மரபுநடைக்குழு”.
Mandalpatti Hill,
locally known as Mugilupete (Market of Clouds), is a breathtaking 4,050-foot
peak in the Pushpagiri range of the Western Ghats. This place is famous for
viewing at sunrise and sunset, and also famous for its panoramic views of
mist-covered valleys. Located about 18 – 20 km from Madikeri, Coorg, nearly half of the distance is covered with thrilling 4x4 off-road jeep
adventures. The last stretch involves a rugged, uneven terrain.
Prices typically range from ₹2,500 to ₹3,500
per jeep (holding 5–6
people) depending on the season and where we start.
During our visit from
06.15 hrs to 06.30 hrs, the hill and valley were completely covered with mist
and drizzling. Totally, we were disappointed. The best time to visit Mandalpatti
is from November to January.
