As
part of the Triplicane Heritage Walk Visited this mosque. The mosque was constructed
in a sprawling area with a large open space in front. Even
though it was claimed that this was constructed during Tippu Sultan Period
(1750 to 1799), as per the records available the mosque was built in 1795
by Muhammad Ali Khan Wallajah, the Nawab of Arcot. He is very friendly with
Hindus. He appointed a Hindu as a Chief personal secretary. A chronogram in
Persian language written by Raja Makhan
Lal Bahadur Khirat, the Hindu Munshi of the Nawab, is available
at the entrance of the Prayer Hall. The Mosque is being maintained by the
Prince of Arcot Endowments Trust. It was learned that Hindus are also in
the trust, which has to be verified.
The Mosque has a large prayer hall built of granite stone in the Mughal Architectural style. It has two minarets that are 131 ( 40 Meters ) high.
There is a Darga on the right of the mosque named Hasrath Malikum Ulma Bahrul Ulum. This saint, who lived 300 years before, was buried here. It was said that speech-related ailments would be cured if the body came to this Dargah and prayed. In addition to Visitors and Muslims from Various parts of the country, pigeons visit this mosque in large numbers.
