…a continuation post ( Thamaraipakkam check dam )
25th February
2017.
After visiting the Thamaraipakkam Anaicut, we headed towards Thirukandalam, the 18th Padal Petra sthalam of Thondai Nadu, as the archakar was waiting for us.
This is the second visit to the Sri Sivanandheeswarar Temple at Thirukallil (now known as Thirukandalam) as part of the Paadal Petra Sthalangal visit. This time, we looked into the heritage perspective. Tried to study the inscription at the base of the sanctum. We can trace the word Vikrama Chozha from the painted inscription under Dakshinamurthy in koshtam. Also, we noticed a Brick vimanam thangi on the Rajagopuram, which looks different from a hat. There is a separate sannadhi for Dakshinamurthy, and his consort is sitting on his lap, similar to Surutapalli.
I
personally felt very sad after hearing the news of the demise of the old
Sivachariyar, who had done pooja during my earlier visit. He also offered me
coffee after the darshan.
