This temple is facing east with out any entrance arch or Rajagopuram. The sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum and and open Muka mandapam. On the sanctum, there is a 3 tier Nagara Vesara Vimana. The sanctum sanctorum is on an elevated level with 9 steps. Moolavar is of Tharalingam and somaskandhar is on the back wall of moolavar. The open arthamandapam is supported with 4 lion pillars and 4 lion pilasters. The temple was built with sand stone.
In the mandapam apart from Dwarabalakas, panels of various leelas of Lord Shiva. Ravana anugraga murthy, Ganga Visarjana, Gajasamhara, Jalanthara samhara, Uthuvadhandavamurti are worth to watch. The outer north and west walls has the reliefs of Chandesa Anugrahamurthy, Durga, Yogamurti, Gandhara, Matamurti. An elobarate panel of Lingothbhavar is on the west wall. This temple is very much similar to Sri Muktheswarar temple.
As per the inscriptions scholars feel that the temple was started during Rajasimha and completed during Nandhivarma-II period.
HOW TO REACH:
This temple is on the Hospital road near Bus stand and the entrance is through a small lane.
