The visit to these Hero stones at Nangupatti (actually these Hero stones are at Marudampatti, maybe a part of Nanguppatti) was
a part of the Heritage Visit to temples around Keeranur in Pudukkottai District,
organized by “Yaaooyakay – யாஊயாகே” group on 2nd and 3rd October 2021. The 4 Hero stones are installed facing east,
just opposite the Nangupatti Thiruperumandar Shiva temple.
The
first hero stone… The Hero is in a standing posture with the left hand in a raised position and holding a bow. The
right hand is holding a sword tied to his hip. He is wearing a half-dress below
his waist. He is looking straight, and his tuft is shown on his right side.
The
Second Hero Stone … The second hero is shown similarly to the first one. His half-dress knot is shown on the left side.
The
third Hero Stone… In this Hero Stone, the hero’s left hand is shown in a raised
position, holding a shield. The right hand is holding his tuft, and the tuft is shown
straight. He is wearing a half dress, the knot is shown on his left side. In
addition to the hero, there is a woman/man shown on his right side holding
a sword /Kattar in his left hand. Since the hero stone is submerged up to the
bottom image’s neck, the full details are not known.
The
fourth hero stone… this hero stone is more or less similar to the first Hero.
In this, the hero is shown standing straight in the Samabhanga posture and staring. He is wearing a half dress, the
knot and the frill are also shown. He is holding a big bow in his left hand and shows it from his toe to his head. The right
hand is holding a sword tied to his waist. His tuft is shown on the right side.
The hero is wearing an ornament on his neck and hands. Probably, this hero may be the head of the group.
