Sri Hanumantheeswarar Temple, Anakkavur / Anakkavoor / Anakavur, Thiruvannamalai District, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Sri Hanumantheeswarar Temple at Anakkavur. was a part of  Heritage Visit to the Temples, Thavvai, Kotravai, Durgai, Hero Stone sculpture’s around Cheyyar in Tiruvannamalai District on 22nd August 2021. Thanks to Logesh for his guidance, Babu mano and manoj, for taking me to this place.

Some of the salient features of this temple are…
The temple is facing east with and entrance door. A stucco image of Hanuman worshiping a Shiva Linga is above the entrance. A Deepa sthambam, balipeedam and Nandi are after  the entrance. Stucco images of Adiyars, Vinayagar, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Lord Shiva and Parvati as Rishabaroodar, Ambal are on top of the East side wall. An opening is provided to see moolavar on the east wall. Dwarapalakas are painted at the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum. Moolavar is little big on a square avudayar. In koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahma and Durgai. A Vinayagar as a loose sculpture and urchavars are in the ardha mandapam.

In prakaram Vinayagar is on the left side immediately after the entrance, Saptamatrikas ( only a part ), Ayyanar, Nalvar, Sri Valli Devasena Arumugar, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar,  Kotravai Vinayagar, Murugan ( damaged ), Nagar as loose sculptures, Ambal Tripura Sundari, Kotravai, Chandran, Chandikeswarar and Navagrahas.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala and ardha mandapam. The entrance to the ardha mandapam is from south side with a sobhana mandapam.

The sanctum sanctorum is on a simple padabandha adhisthana. From adhisthana to Prastaram is constructed with Stone ( painted ). A two tier stucco Vesara Vimana is above the Bhoomi Desam. Stucco images of adhtadik palakas (..?) are in the karnapathi. Images are also in the Vimana agarai. No images found in the valabi.
 





HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The temple is believed to be built during Chozha’s period and the inscription records that Lord Shiva was called as Valeeswarar.

Maha Kumbhabhishekam and 1008 sangu abhishekam was conducted on 09th July 1989. As per this inscription this place was in North Arcot District and latter merged with Thiruvannamalai District.

LEGENDS
It is believed that Hanuman, to get relieved from Shiva abarth, installed Shiva Linga at many places and this is also one of them.

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from Oru kala Pooja special poojas are conducted on Pournami, Amavasya, Aadi month Fridays, Maha Shivaratri and Pradosham.

TEMPLE TIMINGS
The temple will be kept opened between 08.00 hrs to 10.00 hrs and 17.00 hrs to 19.00 hrs.

HOW TO REACH
This place Anakkavur is about 3.7 KM from Cheyyar, 34.5 KM from Kanchipuram, 61 KM from Chengalpattu, 64 KM from Arakkonam, 79 KM from Thiruvannamalai and 113 KM from Chennai.
Nearest Railway station is Kanchipuram and Junction is Arakkonam or Chengalpattu ( more or less both are same distance ).
