LEGENDS
This is one of Maha Vishnu’s Abhimana kshethra, where two Perumals are in the same premises. (In Thiruvaimozhi 10th Pasuram, there was a mention of Irattai Perumal) and a parihara kshetram for Rahu and Ketu pariharam. Thayar is varaprasadhi. Devotees pray to Thayar for a child boon and to remove marriage obstacles.

It is believed that in 1945, during World War II, due to a shortage of rice, Naivedyam was prepared from varaku (Millet) rice. The same was complained to the British rulers. When they asked to bring the Naivedyam, they found it was made of Good rice.
