The
visit to this Uraneeshwarar Shiva Temple at Urapakkam was a part of the “Shiva and
Vishnu Temples Visit at Urapakkam, Arungal, Kannivakkam, Kumizhi and
Melakottaiyur”, on 19th February 2022. Every time when I crossed
Urapakkam, this ( incomplete ) KaRRali with yazhihastha shobanam used to remind
me an old temple existed, and thought of Visiting one day.

Some
of the salient features of this temple are….
The
temple is under Palalayam, Moolavar, Vinayagar, and Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar
are kept in a temporary shed and Poojas are done. Navagrahas, Old Rishabams, and
Nagars are on the backside.
ARCHITECTURE
The
new temple ( to be consecrated ) is constructed completely with stone from
adhistanam to Sigaram. The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala and
ardha mandapam. The adhistanam is of kapota bandha adhisthana. A Two-tier
stone Vesara Vimana is above the sanctum sanctorum. A Complete renovation as a
stone kaRRali is completed and waiting for the consecration and Rajagopuram
construction is in progress.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It
is claimed that the original temple belongs to the 12th Century Chozha
period, but do not know when the previous renovation was done. The present
renovation as a KaRRali was stopped due to a shortage of funds.
POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart
from regular poojas special poojas are conducted on pradosam, Maha Shivaratri,
Sankatahara Chaturthi, Nataraja Abhishekam, Arudra darshan, Karthigai Deepam, Annabhishekam,
Pournami and Amavasya Days.
TEMPLE TIMINGS
The
temple will be kept open between 06.00 hrs to 11.00 hrs and 18.00 hrs to
20.30 hrs.

The
temple is on the GST Road, about 800 meters from Urapakkam Railway station, 9
KM from Tambaram, 23 KM from Chengalpattu, 36 KM from Chennai Central.
The Nearest
Railway station is Urapakkam and the Bigger station is Tambaram.
Request
to participate in the renovation of this Sri Ooraneeshwarar Temple of Urapakkam
and get the blessings of Lord Shiva, since the renovation was halted due to a shortage of funds.
