The
visit to this Sri Venkatesa Perumal Temple at Arungal/ Kannivakkam was a part
of the “Shiva and Vishnu Temples Visit at Urapakkam, Arungal, Kannivakkam, Kumuzhi, and Melkottaiyur”, on 19th February 2022. This temple is on the way
to Kannivakkam & Kumizhi from Urapakkam.

Some
of the salient features of this temple are….
The
temple faces east with balipeedam and Garudan. Stucco images of Venkatesa Perumal,
Sridevi, and Andal are on the top of the Mukha mandapam. Stucco Dwarapalakas are
at the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum. Moolavar Sri Venkatesa Perumal is similar
to Tirupati, in standing posture inside the sanctum sanctorum. His upper hands are
holding Chanku / Conch and Chakra and his Lower hands are in Varadha and Kadi
hastam. In koshtam Thumbigai Alwar / Vinayagar, Narayanar, Hyagreevar, and Narasimhar.
The temple is very small with Sri Padmavati and Andal Sannidhis in the
praharam.
ARCHITECTURE
The
temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, ardha mandapam, and an open mukha mandapam.
The sanctum sanctorum is on a padabandha adhisthana with three patta kumuda on
an upana. A two-tier stucco Vesara Vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum with 4 Nasis in the cardinal directions. Stucco images of Maha Vishnu’s various forms,
Krishna with Radha, Hayagreevar, Ananda sayana Perumal, Hayagreevar, Venkatesa Perumal, etc,
are on the Vimanam.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It
was said that a 300 – 400-year-old brick structure existed in the same
place where the new temple exists. The temple was completely reconstructed with
brick and cement and Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 26th
April 2019.
TEMPLE TIMINGS
The
temple will be kept open between 06.00 hrs to 08.30 hrs ( 07.00 hrs to 10.00
hrs on Saturdays ) and 18.00 hrs to 20.00 hrs.
HOW TO REACH
The
temple is on the GST Road, about 9.6 KM from Urapakkam Railway Station, 17.5 KM
from Tambaram, 28 KM from Chengalpattu, and 44 KM from Chennai Central.
The nearest
Railway station is Urapakkam and the Bigger station is Tambaram.
