Buddha idol / sculpture, Sri Athmalingeswarar Temple, Nerkundram, Chennai District, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Buddha Sculpture installed in Sri Athmaligeswarar Shiva Temple at Nerkundram was a part of the Shiva Temples and Jain Tirthankara and Buddha sculptures visit planned on 30th January 2022, after lifting the Covid-19, Sunday Lockdown.
 
This Buddha Idol is installed on the east side wall of the sanctum sanctorum of Sri Atma Lingeswarar Temple on Dayasadan Street at Nerkundram. The Buddha is in meditation posture in ardha padmasana. Ushnisha is shown on top of the head. The dress is faintly visible on his left shoulder. The Buddha idol is unique since Samaratharis / fly whiskers are shown on both sides. Ashoka creepers are also shown on the top. At the base, a Dharma Chakra is also faintly Visible


It was learned that this Buddha idol was recorded as Tirthankara. However, experts confirm that this is a Buddha idol only.  

HOW TO REACH
The temple is about 100 meters from the Bangalore – Chennai Highway.
The temple is 1.8 KM  from Koyambedu Metro Station, 3 KM from CMBT, 11 KM from Poonamallee, and 11.7 KM from Chennai Central.
Nearest Railway Station is Koyambedu Metro Station.

  1. Uncle, this doesn't look like a Buddha idol. It is a Jain Tirthankar.

    1. Where is the mukkudai ma.. please see the dress marks on the chest, and the Jwala on the top of the head..
