The
visit to this Sri Kailasanathar Temple at Padi was a part of the Shiva, Vishnu, and
Amman Temples Visit at Padi, Korattur, and Madhavaram on 06th
February 2022. This temple is very close to the Padal Petra Shiva Temple at
Padi, ie., Thiruvalithayam Shiva Temple. There are many Pallava / Chozha period
Shiva Lingas unearthed during recent times from Padi to Korattur. This visit
was aimed at seeing such old Shiva Temples / Shiva Lingas.

Some
of the salient features of this temple are…
The
temple faces east with Kodimaram, balipeedam, and Rishabam / Idabam. The
stucco image of Shiva’s family is on the top of the east side entrance. The temple
is very small Moolavar seems to be very old. In koshtam, Vinayagar,
Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahma and Durgai. In ardha mandapam Vinayagar, Sri
Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Bairavar and Suriyan.
In
Praharam Chandikeswarar, Nagars under a peepal tree and Navagrahas.
ARCHITECTURE
The
temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala and ardha mandapam. The
construction does not conform to any temple architecture. There is no Vimanam
above the sanctum sanctorum. The ardha
mandapa pillars have the reliefs of the Vijayanagara Nayaks period may be 15th
to 16th century. The temple might have been constructed/reconstructed in recent years.
HISTORY & INSCRIPTION
It
was said that the original temple may have been constructed during the same period as the Padi Shiva Temple. Since the existing brick structure maybe 100 to 200 years
old.

Apart from oru kala pooja special poojas are conducted on Pradosham and Maha
Shivaratri days.

temple will be kept open between 07.00 hrs to 09.00 hrs and 17.00 hrs to
19.00 hrs.

TO REACH
This
Shiva Temple is between North Mada Street and Chennai – Tiruvallur High Road in
Padi and about 300 meters from Thiruvalithayam temple.
The
temple is about 6 KM from Koyambedu, 12 KM from Chennai Central, and 16.5 KM
from Poonamallee.
Nearest Railway station is Koyambedu Metro.
