The temple faces east, with an entrance arch. Balipeedam and Rishabam are in the mukha mandapam. Stucco images of Shiva and Parvati are on top of the mandapam. Moolavar is on a round avudayar, big in size. There are no images on the Kostas.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of the sanctum sanctorum, ardha mandapam, and a meta color sheet mukha mandapam. The construction of the temple does not follow any temple architecture style. Instead of a regular vimanam, a salakara vimanam is over the sanctum sanctorum. The locations of Vinayagar sannidhi and Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniyar Sannidhi are also not in their respective places.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It is claimed that the temple is 700 years old (maybe Moolavar). However, the present structure may be 150 to 200 years old.

LEGENDS
As per the legend, Shiva swallowed the poison that came out first, in the process of churning the milk ocean by the Devas and Asuras for the Amrita. Ma Parvati stopped the poison at the throat itself by pressing with her fingers. Due to this, the throat changed to a blue color. Hence, Shiva is called Neelakandeswarar.

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
