Sri Kailasanathar Temple/ கைலாசநாதர் கோயில், Kottaimedu, Komarapalayam, Namakkal District, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Sri Kailasanathar Temple at Kottaimedu, Komarapalayam was a part of “Shiva, Vishnu, Amman Temples and Heritage sites from Komarapalayam to Edappadi Visit” – On 19th May 2024. Thanks to ல மா செல்வராசு, one of my FB friends of Komarapalayam for taking me to all these places.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple is facing east with an entrance from South side.  Balipeedam and rishabam ( Head is looking straight – little big - seems to made out of special rock ) are in front of open mukha mandapam. Moolavar Sri Kailasanathar is on a round avudayar. Stucco dwarapalakas are at the entrance of sanctum sanctorum. In koshtam, Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma and Durgai.

In praharam Vinayagar, Pancha Lingas, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Vinayagar ( seems to be of older one and made of different stone- may be bell rock ) with Nagars, Nalvar, Swarna Akarshana bairavar with his consort on his lap, Navagrahas, Saniswaran, Chandran, Suryian and Chandikeswarar.

Ambal Sri Annapoorani is in a separate sannidhi facing east, on the left side of the Shiva’s sannidhi. Dwarapalakis are in at the entrance of sanctum sanctorum. A balipeedam and a Rishabam are in front of sanctum sanctorum. Ambal is in standing posture with abhaya varada hastam.
ARCHITECTURE
Both Shiva and Ambal sannidhis are built in the same style, built completely with brick and cement concrete. The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, ardha mandapam and a open mukha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on a upanam, adhistanam, bhitti, prastaram, and a one tier vesara Vimanam. Shiva, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu and Brahma are in tala and greeva koshtam.






HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It was told that the original temple may be more than 500 years old. The Shiva Lingam, Rishabam and Vinayagar are seems to be old.
 
The construction of the temple foundation stone was laid on 25th January 2006. Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 19th January 2011.


POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from regular poojas special poojas are conducted on pradosham, Maha Shivaratri, Thai poosam, Vinayagar Chathurthi, etc.
Uchi kala pooja will be conducted at 12.00 hrs.

TEMPLE TIMINGS
The temple will be kept opened between 07.00 hrs to 12.00 hrs and 17.00 hrs to 20.00 hrs.

Bathirakali Amman Temple / ஸ்ரீ பத்ரகாளி அம்மன் கோயில், Kottaimedu, Komarapalayam, Namakkal district, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Sri Bathirakali Amman Temple at Kottaimedu, Komarapalayam was a part of “Shiva, Vishnu, Amman Temples and Heritage sites from Komarapalayam to Edapadi Visit” – On 19th May 2024. Thanks to ல மா செல்வராசு, one of my FB friends of Komarapalayam for taking me to all these places.  


This place is called as kottai medu, since this temple was once in a kottai / fort. But there is no kottai / fort exists.

Moolavar   : Sri Bathirakali Amman

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple is facing north with a 3 tier Rajagopuram. A mandapam with trishuls, Spears are in front of Rajagopuram. Swing / oonjal, Balipeedam and simham are in front of the temple under a mandapam.
Dwarapalaka and Dwarapalaki are in front of the temple / sanctum sanctorum. Amman is the sanctum sanctorum is with ashta bhujam, holding various weapons.

In praharam Stucco horses and the images of Men, installed for prayer.



ARCHITECTURE
The sanctum sanctorum is on a elevate level. A two tier salakara Vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It was told that the temple may be 200 to 300 years old. Basically this temple is a Grama devata temple. The Dwarapalaka and Dwarapalaki images are unique in this temple and usually this arrangement can be seen only in ancient and old temples. 

The temple was constructed by J K K Natarajan Chettiar, with his own fund and public money and maha kumbabhishekam was conducted on 07th June 1973. He was conferred with a title of Thirupani arasu and a sengol, by Pazhaiya Kottai Pattakarar, N Nalla Senapathi Chakkaraui Mandradiyar, and this was given away by the cine film actor Sivaji Ganesan. During that occasion Kannapar statue was gifted by Thirumuruga Kirubananda variyar. 

Thirupani was started on 04th September 1968 and Maha Kumbabhishekam was conducted on June 1973, 24th November 1997, and  28th October 2012,





LEGENDS
Since this temple is one of the Grama devata temple, a guarding deity of the Village. Devotees worships Amman to guard them from evil spirits, to get rid of pilli Suniyam, eval, deceases, etc.

Apart from regular poojas special poojas are conducted on Fridays and annual festival days.

Shri Arasiramani Vellutru Perumal Kovil / ஶ்ரீ அரசிராமணி வெள்ளுற்று பெருமாள் கோவில், Arasiramani, Salem district, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Sri Arasiramani Vellutru Perumal kovil at Arasiramani was a part of “Shiva, Vishnu, Amman Temples and Heritage sites from Komarapalayam to Edappadi Visit” – On 19th May 2024. This temple is away from human habitation near the hill. Thanks to ல மா செல்வராசு, one of my FB friends of Komarapalayam for taking me to all these places.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple is facing east without any compound wall. Stucco images of Krishnar and Cows on both sides are on the top of mukha mandapam. A Deepa sthambam  or garuda thoon and Anjaneyar are in front of the Temple. In Sanctum sanctorum, Sri Maha Vishnu as Narayanar and and Sridevi and Bhudevi. Two stones are in the mandapam, under worship with thiruman.

Vinayagar as Thumbigai Alwar, Hanuman, and a small spring with steps on 4 sides are in the outer praharam.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala and ardha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on a adhistanam, Bhitti, prastaram and Vimanam. Vaishnava related stucco images are on the Vimanam.

A spring or a well is on the north side of the temple with steps on all four sides.



HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The temple belongs to 100 to 200 years old. No further details available about this temple.

LEGENDS
Since the temple is away from human habitation, why this temple is constructed at this place is not known.

The Spring on the north side of the temple over flows during rainy and non rainy seasons. It was told that the spring didn’t dried up even during hot summer. From where the water comes is not known. Hence the Maha Vishnu is called as Vellutru Perumal.

Oru kala pooja is conducted and no special poojas are conducted.

Chozheeswarar Temple / Chozhishwarar Temple / சோழீஸ்வரர் கோயில், Palakaran Kadu, Arasiramani, Salem District, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Sri Chozhizwarar Temple at Palakaran Kadu, Arasiramani was a part of “Shiva, Vishnu, Amman Temples and Heritage sites from Komarapalayam to Edappadi Visit” – On 19th May 2024. Thanks to ல மா செல்வராசு, one of my FB friends of Komarapalayam for taking me to all these places. The temple is under renovation and under worship, during our Visit.  


Moolavar   : Sri Chozheeswarar
Consort     : Sri Periya Nayagi

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple is facing west with a dilapidated rajagopuram. Balipeedam and Rishabam are in front of the mukha mandapam. Moolavar is little large. Vinayagar and Murugan are at the entrance of sanctum sanctorum. In koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar and Brahma.
 
In praharam Niruthi Vinayagar, Sri Lakshmi Narayanar, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Saniswarar, Navagrahas, Bairavar, Nagars, Vinayagar, Old Rishabam and Chandikeswarar.

Ambal is in a separate sannidhi facing South. Ambal is in standing posture with abhaya varada hastam.  Nalvar is also in ardha mandapam.  



ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam and a mukha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on a pada bandha adhistanam with jagathy, threepatta kumudam and pattikai. The Bhitti starts with vedikai. The pilasters are of Vishnukantha pilasters with square base, Kalasam, kudam, lotus petals mandi, palakai and vettu pothyal. The prastaram consists of valapi and kapotam. An ekatala vesara vimanm is on the bhumidesam.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The original temple belongs to Kongu Chozha period. Hence this temple is being called as Chozheeswarar. 14th to 15th Century fragment inscriptions on one slab stone and another with 16th to 17th Century Vijayanagara Period inscription found in this temple. 

The Vijayanagara period inscription ends with ...... சோளசுரமுடையார்கு.....   ....  குடுத்த பரிசு ..."Cholasuramudaiyarku..........  .... kodutha parisu", may be for an endowment. 

Before renovations, the dilapidated temple and Rajagopuram stones are used by the Villagers, for construction and in the fields as bunds.

It was told that the original Shiva Lingam was blasted for treasure hunting. The same was replaced with a new, when found nothing.
