Sengunthar Kamatchi Amman Temple / செங்குந்தர் காமாட்சி அம்மன் கோயில் / Sri Ekambareswarar Temple, Chittode, Erode District, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Sri Kamatchi Amman Temple at Chittode was a part of the “Shiva, Vishnu, Amman Temples and Heritage Sites Visit” – On 18th May 2024. This temple belongs to the Sengunthar Mudaliar community. The mandapam was built like a house.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces east with a common mandapam for both Shiva and Ambal temples. Stucco images of Shiva and Parvati as Rishabaroodar, Vinayagar, and Murugan are on the top of the Shiva Temple entrance. A stucco image of Kamakshi with a parrot, Sugar cane, and pasa Anguasam is on the top of the Amman temple entrance. Moolavar is small on a round avudayar. In koshtam, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, and Brahma.

Ambal is in a separate sannidhi facing east. Amman is in standing posture with abhaya varada hastam. The prabai around Amman is an integral part of the Vigraha.

In praharam, Vinayagar, Bala Murugan, Chandikeswarar, Vinayagar, Durgai, Anjaneyar, Bairavar, Navagrahas, and Vinayagar with Nagars under Bilva tree.    



ARCHITECTURE
Both Moolavar and Ambal sannidhis are constructed without following any temple architecture. Moreover, granite tiles are fixed from upanam to prastaram. A 2 tier brick Nagara Vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum.  Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, and Brahma are on the tala and greeva koshtams. The sigaram is of nagara style.




HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The temple belongs to Senguntha Mudaliar community. The temple was built during the 20th to 21st Century, with a Kalyana mandapam.

Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 02nd February 2017.


LEGENDS
The Senguntha Mudaliar Community, Considers this Kamakshi Amman as equivalent to Kanchi Kamatchi Amman and also offers prayers to this Kamakshi as their Kuladeivam.
 
People pray to Kamatchi Amman, to remove marriage obstacles and Child boon.

Apart from regular poojas, special poojas are conducted on Pradosham, Maha Shivaratri days, Fridays, Amavasya days, etc.

The temple is about 100 meters from Chittode 4 Road Junction.
The temple is about 6.3 KM from Bhavani Sangameshwarar Temple, 11 KM from Erode Junction, 17 KM from Perundurai, and 27 KM from Gobichettipalayam.
Nearest Railway station is Erode.
