Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces east with an entrance from the South side.  Balipeedam and Rishabam ( Head is looking straight – a little big - seems to be made out of special rock ) are in front of the open mukha mandapam. Moolavar Sri Kailasanathar is on a round avudayar. Stucco dwarapalakas are at the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum. In koshtam, Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma and Durgai.

In praharam Vinayagar, Pancha Lingas, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Vinayagar ( seems to be of older one and made of different stone- may be bell rock ) with Nagars, Nalvar, Swarna Akarshana bairavar with his consort on his lap, Navagrahas, Saniswaran, Chandran, Suryian and Chandikeswarar.

Ambal Sri Annapoorani is in a separate sannidhi facing east, on the left side of the Shiva’s sannidhi. Dwarapalakis are at the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum. A balipeedam and a Rishabam are in front of the sanctum sanctorum. Ambal is in standing posture with abhaya varada hastam.
ARCHITECTURE
Shiva and Ambal sannidhis are built in the same style, completely with brick and cement concrete. The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, ardha mandapam, and an open mukha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on an upanam, adhistanam, bhitti, prastaram, and a one-tier vesara Vimanam. Shiva, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, and Brahma are in tala and greeva koshtam.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It was said that this Shiva Temple existed inside a fort at this place and it does not exist now. But in remembrance of the fort, this place is called Kottai Medu. The original temple may be more than 1000 years old. When Thirugnanasambandar came to Thirunana (Bhavani Sangameswarar Temple), he couldn't reach it due flood in the Kaveri River. The Shiva Lingam, Rishabam, and Vinayagar seem to be old. Vinayagar was made of a special stone (maybe a bell stone - it will emanate a bell sound when tapped)

The construction of the temple (the same place where the original temple existed) foundation stone was laid on 25th January 2006. Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 19th January 2011.
