Sri Varadaraja Perumal Temple / Near Brahma Koil. Kumbakonam, Thanjavur District, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Sri Varadaraja Perumal Temple was a part of the “Shiva, Vishnu and Amman Temples Visit, in and around Kumbakonam”, on 13th July 2024. This Sri Varadaraja Perumal temple is at the entrance of the street to Sri Veda Narayana Perumal Temple, known as Brahma Koil Street. Also, this is a sub-temple of the Sri Vedanarayana Perumal Temple.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces South with a 3-tier Rajagopuram. The temple is at an elevated level of about 5 feet from road level, with steps to access the temple. Stucco image of Sri Maha Vishnu in the Ananda sayanam on the south side wall of the temple. Balipeedam, Dwajasthambam, and Garudan are in front of the sanctum sanctorum. Moolavar Varadaraja Perumal is standing with Bhumi Neela Devi. Utsavar Sri Varadaraja Perumal is with Sridevi and Bhudevi in front of the moolavar.

In praharam Perundevi Thayar, Anjaneyar, Vishvaksenar.



ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of the sanctum sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam, and a mukha mandapam. The complete temple was constructed with bricks and concrete. The temple was built without confirming any temple architecture. An eka tala vesara vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum. Maha Vishnu’s various avatars are painted on the sanctum sanctorum wall. 




HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
This temple is under the control of Brahma Trust, a private body of the Saurashtra community. This trust takes care of both this temple and the Sri Vedanarayana Perumal Temple.

Sourashtra Paripalana Committee conducted the Jeernotharana Ashta bandhana Maha Samprokshanam on 3rd May 1974. Again, Maha Samprokshanam was conducted on 09th February 1998. During that time, with the funds saved, Thirupani was done to Andal Sannidhi, Venkatachalapathy Sannidhi, Vedanarayana Perumal temple outer wall, mandapam roof with concrete, and two houses for the service personnel of the temple.

Sourashtra Dharma Paripalana Committee 1912-2012, celebrated its 100th year, and Sthala History was released on 17th January 2016. Again, Maha Samprokshanam was conducted on 24th March 2021.






POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from regular Poojas, special Poojas are conducted on Navaratri, Vaikundta Kadasi, Narasimhar Jayanthi, etc.

The temple will be kept open from 08.00 hrs to 12.00 hrs, and from 17.00 hrs to 20.00 hrs.

This Sri Varadaraja Perumal Temple is on Brahma Koil Street, in Valayapettai Agraharam, a part of Kumbakonam City.
This temple is about 1.9 km from Kumbakonam Bus Stand, 2.1 km from Kumbakonam Railway Station, 34 km from Mayiladuthurai, and 38 km from Thanjavur.
The nearest Railway Station is Kumbakonam.
