The visit
to this Gupta Period Temple at Sanchi, the Buddhist Monument at Sanchi, and a UNESCO
Heritage Site, was a part of the “Bhopal, Udayagiri Rock Cut Caves, Bhimbetka
Rock Shelters, Sanchi, Bhojpur, and Khajuraho – of Madhya Pradesh Heritage Walk” organized by the எண்திசை வரலாற்று மரபுநடைக்குழு, between 25th and 28th December 2024.
Temple No. 17 belongs to the Gupta period. It consists of a flat-roofed square sanctum and a portico supported on four pillars and two pilasters. The Capital is carved with four lions on each corner. The temple is remarkable for its structural propriety, symmetrical proportions, and restraint in ornamentation. The pillars have the Devanagari inscriptions.
