The
visit to this Sri Chidambareswarar Temple, on Pudupalayam Street in Pillaiyarpalayam
was a part of the “Maha Shivaratri 2025 Temples Visit”, on 26th February
2025, organized by Mr. Babu Mano, and
Mr. Suresh Priyan.
This temple is just opposite Rudrakodeswarar temple.
Moolavar : Sri Chidambareswarar
Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces west with an eka tala Rajagopuram
on the west side. Balipeedam and Rishabam are after the Rajagopuram and the
entrance to the ardha mandapam is from the south side. A Jala is installed in front of Rishabam to see Moolavar. In koshtam, Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Maha
Vishnu, and Brahma.
In praharam, Nalvar, Vinayagar, and Chandikeswarar.
ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum and ardha
mandapam. The whole temple was constructed with brick and cement concrete.
Stucco image of Shiva and Parvati as Rishabarooder is on the west wall of the
ardha mandapam. The Vimanam is of eka tala, the upari tala of adi tala looks
like a separate tala. The sigaram is of vesara style.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It is believed that the original temple belongs to the 10th to 11th Century and the present structure belongs to
20 - 21st century.
The thirupani was started on 02, October 2004,
completed and Maha kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 16th September
2005. During the thirupani, a new maha
mandapam was conducted and tiles were fixed in parivara sannidhis.

Apart from regular poojas, special poojas are
conducted on pradosham, Maha Shivaratri, Chithirai Thiruvonam, Ani uthiram,
Avani Valarpirai Chaturthi, Puratasi Valarpirai Chaturthi, Margazhi
Thiruvathirai, Masi valar pirai Chaturthi, etc.

This
temple is on the Pudupalayam Street in Pillaiyarpalayam and just opposite to
Rudrakodeswarar temple.
The temple is about 2.7 km from Kanchipuram Bus
stand 2.9 km from Ekambareswarar Temple, and 4 km from Kanchipuram Railway
Station.
