This
is a unique Amman temple dedicated to Meenakshi in the midst of automobile
product selling shops, at Pudupet, a part of Chennai. This temple is on the
banks of the Holy River Cooum.

Some
of the salient features of this temple are….
The
temple faces south with a 3 tier Rajagopuram. Dwajasthambam, balipeedam, and
Simham are immediately after the Rajagopuram. Vinayagar and Sri Valli Devasena
Subramaniar are at the entrance of the maha mandapam. A stucco image of Meenakshi is on
the top of the entrance to the maha mandapam. Dwarapalakis and Sri Parasamaya
Kolarinathar, Veerabhadra, a small Shiva lingam under snake hood, and Veera
Makaliamman are on both sides of the entrance to the ardha mandapam.
In the sanctum sanctorum, Sri Meenakshi is in a standing posture with two hands, very much similar to Madurai Meenakshi. The right hand holds a lotus bud, and the
left hand is in dola hastam. Amman’s various forms of images are in the
koshtam.

the praharam, Nagaras and Navagrahas.

ARCHITECTURE
The
temple consists of the sanctum sanctorum, the ardha mandapam, and the maha mandapam. The
sanctum sanctorum is rectangular in shape. A 2 tier salakara vimanam is on
the sanctum sanctorum. Saptamatrikas and Amman’s various forms are in the tala
and greeva koshtams.
HISTORY
AND INSCRIPTIONS
The
temple may be 200 to 300 years old and belongs to the Viswakarma community. The
temple is under the control of Sri Parasamaya Kolarinatha Mutt under the
Tirunelveli Sri Parasamaya Kolarinathar Adheenam.
The
temple construction was sponsored by the Viswakarma community.

LEGENDS
It
is believed that this Meenakshi is equivalent to Madurai Meenakshi Amman with
equal power. Hence devotees worship Meenakshi for child boon, and to remove
marriage obstacles.

Apart
from oru kala pooja, special poojas are conducted on Fridays, New Year's Day,
Navaratri, Viswakarma Day, etc.

The
temple will be kept open from 07.00 hrs to 09.00 hrs, and from 17.00 hrs to 20.00
hrs.

temple is about 1 km from the LIC Metro station, 1.6 km from Chintadripet MRTS
