The
visit to this Sri Kasi Viswanathar Temple at Erivoy village, midway between Walajabad
and Kanchipuram was a part of the “Maha Shivaratri 2025 Temples Visit”, on 26th
February 2025, organized by Mr. Babu Mano, and
Mr. Suresh Priyan.
This temple is on the banks of the Palar River.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces east with an entrance mottai
gopuram on the south side. Balipeedam and Rishabam are on the east side of the
temple. The entrance to the ardha mandapam is on the south side. Shiva and
Parvati's stucco image is on the top of the entrance. In sanctum sanctorum, Shiva
Lingam is on a round avudaiyar. In koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Maha
Vishnu, Brahma, and Durgai.
In praharam, Vinayagar, Sri Valli Devasena
Subramaniar, Nalvar, Chandikeswarar, Bairavar, Navagrahas, and Saniswarar.
ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum and arsha
mandapam. The eka tala vimanam is of 3 anga vimanam. The sigaram is of vesara
style.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It is said that the original temple belongs to the 12th
– 13th Century. The same was reconstructed during the Vijaya Nagara
Nayakas period. Telugu inscriptions are found on the sanctum sanctorum walls.
LEGENDS
This
Sri Kashi Viswanathar temple is on the banks of the Palar River, where the river
flows from south to north. Hence this temple is considered as a holy place
equivalent to Kashi. Devotees can offer to this Shiva considering as Kashi
Viswanathar.
POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from regular poojas, special poojas are
conducted on Fridays, pradosham, Maha shivaratri, etc.

The temple will be kept open between 07.00 hrs to
11.00 hrs and 17.00 hrs to 20.00 hrs.

Sri
Kasi Viswanathar temple at Erivoy village is on the banks of the Palar River the
temple is about a km on the south side of Chengalpattu to Kanchipuram State Highway, 8 km from Walajabad bus
stand, and 8.5 km from Kanchipuram.
The nearest Railway Station is Kanchipuram & Walajabad.
