Utruketta Muktheeswarar Temple/ உற்று கேட்ட முத்தீஸ்வரர் கோயில், Pillaiyarpalayam, Kanchipuram.

The visit to this Sri Utruketta Mauktheeswarar Temple on Thirumetrali Street, in Pillaiyarpalayam, was a part of the “Maha Shivaratri 2025 Temples Visit”, on 26th February 2025, organized by Mr. Babu Mano and Mr. Suresh Priyan. This Utruketta Muktheeswarar Temple is on the main road, in front of Thirukachi Metrali, one of the Paadal Petra Shiva Temples. Sri Adhi Kanniamman Temple is on the right side of the Rajagopuram, abutting the Compound wall.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces east with a two-tier Rajagopuram. Sri Adhi Kanniamman Temple is on the right side of the Rajagopuram, abutting the Compound wall. Balipeedam and Rishabam are in front of the Mukha mandapam. Moolavar is on the round avudaiyar. The koshtas are empty.

In the praharam, Vinayagar, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Bairavar, and Navagrahas.


ARCHITECTURE
The whole temple was constructed with bricks and cement concrete. The temple consists of the sanctum sanctorum, the ardha mandapam, and an open mukha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on an upanam, pada bandha adhistanam with jagathy, vrutha kumudam, and pattikai. The bhitti starts with vedikai. The prastaram consists of valapi and kapotam with nasi kudus. An ekatala tal vesara vimanam is in the sanctum sanctorum. Shiva, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, and Brahma are in the koshtam.



HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It is believed that the original temple belongs to the Pallava period. The present structure may have been constructed in recent years.

LEGENDS
It is believed that Shiva of this temple listened carefully to the hymns sung by Thirugnanasambandar on Thirukatchi Metrali. Even though the legend says that Thirugnanasambandar sang the hymn on this Shiva, the same is unavailable. But Saint Sivagnana Swamigal mentions the above legend in Kanchipurana.

யாழ நீபெற எம்முரு இங்குவந் தளிப்பான்
ஆழி யோயது காறுமிவ் வைரப்பினில் அமர்ந்து. 10

ஈட்ட ருந்தவம் இயற்றுகென் றருளிநீங் குதலும்
கோட்டம் இன்றிமால் அம்முறை வதிந்துபூங் கொன்றைத்
தோட்ட லங்கலாற் றொழப்புகும் முத்தமிழ் விரகர்
பாட்ட லங்கலால் பரஞ்சுடர் திருவுருப் பெற்றான்

Thirugnanasambandar’s sannidhi is at the end of the street. It is believed that Lord Shiva came here and listened to Thirugnanasambandar’s hymns. Hence, there is a Sannadhi available in the middle of the street by the name “Utrukketta Muktheeswarar”.

Apart from regular poojas, special poojas are conducted on pradosham, Maha Shivaratri days, etc.

Since oru kala pooja is conducted, the opening and closing times are unpredictable.

HOW TO REACH
This Utruketta Muktheeswarar temple is in the middle of the street between Tirumetralinathar Temple, Thirukachi Metrali, and Thirugnanasambandar Temple.
The temple is about 2 km from the bus stand. The temple is about 3 km from Kanchipuram Railway Station, 33 km from Arakkonam Junction, and 74 km from Chennai.
The nearest Railway station is Kanchipuram, and the Junction is Arakkonam. The temple can also be reached by Auto/car.
