“Yathum Oore Yavarum Kelir” (all the places are our place and all the people are our relatives) is a famous phrase written by the great poet Kaniyan Poongundranar, believed to belong to this place, Mahibalampatti, based on the Sundara Pandya’s 10th reign-year inscription, in a rock-cut cave, about 500 meters from this memorial. The inscription refers to this place as Poongundra Nattu Poongundram. His poems are in the Sangam literature Purananooru and Natrinai. This memorial was erected at his birthplace to honour the great poet.
