The visit to this Shiva Temple at Enathy was part of the “Sivaganga
and Pudukkottai Temples and Heritage Sites Visit” on 2nd and 3rd September
2026. This
temple is on the banks of Enathy Kanmai (lake). A Shiva Lingam is kept in front
of the temple, and an Amman idol is kept inside the sanctum sanctorum. An
adhistanam of another temple is on the left side of this temple.
ARCHITECTURE
The
temple dwarfs, with all the features of a big temple. This temple is perhaps the
smallest built by the Pandyas. The temple measures just about 7 feet 4.5 inches
from ground level to the sigaram.
The
temple consists of a sanctum sanctorum and an open mukha mandapam. The sanctum
sanctorum is ona pada bandha adhistanam with Jagathy, muppattai kumudam, and
pattikai. The bhitti starts with vedikai. The pilasters are Brahmakantha
pilasters with kalasam, kudam, palakai, and potyal. There are no devakoshtas on
the bhitti. The prastaram consists of valapi with padma petals, kapotam with
nasi kudus, and vyyalavari. An eka tala vimanam is over the bhumi desam, with
greevam and a nagara sigaram. Mahanasis are on all the 4 sides. Stupi is found
broken.
The
mukha mandapam was built at a later date, supported by two pillars. The
pillars are rectangular and octagonal

though the temple was built in Pandya country, the experts believe that the
